Goldberg Ultimate

I recently picked up a goldberg ultimate bipe and was wondering if there are any mods that I need to do on it. Also what engine do you guys think will fly the plane good. I am looking to use this plane as a sunday flier and to practice the IMAC basic sequence for my 1/4 scale ultimate.

If i remember right there are a couple different winspans of the ultimate. Mine is around 50 inch and i run a saito 1.8 with a 16X8 prop. Great verical and super fast. Still makes me shake a little when i fly it.

If you can use 4 servo's in the wing. I like the hitec 225mg.Dennis

I have the Goldberg one I built! The mods I made were beefing up the landing gear plate, glassing both wings top & bottom, glas cloth inside the engine box and I went to the aluminum landing gear and glass wheel pants and glass cowl.. The second time I flew mine, I landed in the tall grass and it fliped over. The plastic wheel pants that came with the kit cracked completly in half. That plastic stuff is real cheap junk.
I have a OS 1.08, slimline pitts muffler, with a 16x6 and it's a rocket. Flies like it's on rails. First flight was 0 trim on anything. Plane is very fast and be careful when landing. This thing does not glide. Come in with power. If you try to dead stick it in, make sure your're nose down and get as much air speed as you can. Once you're over the field it will land very nicely!
You may want to try low rates on everything but elivator as well!
Hi rates on ailerons is superfast. The first time I flew it, I couldn't count the rolls because it was soooo fast.

Have fun, it's a great plane.

If you are interested, I have another one new in the box I'll sell very reasonable.

I run a ST 90 on mine. It's a good combo. The YS 1.20 powered ones are a great combo. It dosn't need reinforcing. I would not test fly it on low rate elevator. If it dies the low rate is not enough. It will be in the ground before you know it. The stock landing gear is to flexable to run wheel pants. One hard landing and the pants will be into the wing.

Good luck and enjoy. The Goldberg ULT is one of the best all around flyer out there.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate

This is my third ultimate and I have had other bipes as well. I already know that they glide like a brick. I am going with an OS 120 4 stroke that I happen to have laying around right now. I hope that this is enough engine? I am just a sport flier and I haven't tried any 3D stuff yet. I am still working myself up to it. Some of the mods that I have made already are to fuel proof the inside and outside of the firewall, change the elevator servo set up to dual servo's (one on each half). I didn't like the push rod set up that came with it. I used 2 aileron servo's in the lower wing and linked the top ailerons to them. I only have one servo in my GP ultimate to drive all 4 ailerons and it works ok so 2 should be ok. I also have a 1/4 scale ultimate and it has 4 hi torque's on the ailerons. This kit has been sitting around for some time so I am not sure how old it is. I had to fix a couple of problems but nothing major. I hope it flies as nice as my other ultimates have. I have read many great things about this plane and have been wanting one for a long time.

I only have two servos in the wing asn still have break neck response and rolls so fast its scarry. First flight i made with it was on a skysport box, just about soiled myself. 9cap with expo rates really made it more usable for me. Lost the landing gear on about the second flight and reinforced the mounting area with epoxy and cloth.

I agree that the landings are hot, i programed flaps into mine with a little up elevator and set it as air brakes. It does scrub off some speed during landings. I also like the way it whistles at high speed when you do a fly by.

One of the other club members has a pits and another ultimate with a 150 on it and it is no comparison to the 1.80

A Goldberg Ultimate with a YS 120 is a great combo! I have one to try 3D maneuvers before I risk my 33% Ultimate. The Goldberg is to small for some 3D stuff but it will give you a good idea of what to expect. With the YS, power is not an issue.;)

will a satio 150 be a great combo ??

RE: Goldberg Ultimate

The Satio 150 would have more then enough power but take a good look at the case size. The 150 is a large engine; I'm not saying it would not fit jest do some home work first. Maybe someone out there knows more about using this engine with the CG Ultimate. When it comes to 4 stroke glow engines YS is the only one I use. I've had others but they don't compare in my opinion. The power and transition are unequaled.

Like Flyingmisher, I also used an OS 108, with Bisson pitts muffler and APC 16x6 prop.....very, very good combination. There's probably not a better running engine than the 108. He's also right on how to land it. If you put the 108 on it you will have no regrets. Enjoy
