skylane
what is the approx. scale of the H9 Cessna Skylane (1/4, 1/5, none of the above)?
thanks |
RE: skylane
I'm building one now and the answer is neither. It's between 1/4 and 1/5 scale. I bought 1/5 scale pilots for this bird.

RE: skylane
gUNNY, YOU ARE RITE ON. IAM ALSO DOING ONE , THOUGH IVE WENT AND GLASSED MINE AND ARE IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE FUZE VERY SMOOTH, HAVE THE WINGS LEFT TO DO. IAM USING OS 160 TWIN, MCDANIELS 472 ON BOARD, STEVE D RCU DID HIS WITH THIS SET UP AND REPORTED THAT IT DID WELL, HOPE IAM NOT ADDING TO MUCH WEIGHT? WENT WITH 1/2 OZ CLOTH AND Z POXIE ONE COAT AN THIS WAS SQUEEGED, 120 SANDED AND LAQUAR PRIMED AND THAT 400 WET SANDED AND WILL USE WHITE LAQUAR TO FINISH IT WITH EASY TO TOUCH UP, NO COMPATABILITY PROBS. PRINTED ALL OF THE MODS FOR THE RUDDER AND ELEV AND WILL NOT USE CA HINGES, ONE PERSON ADDED THE LITES AND WAS INVITED TO CALL WITH QUESTIONS, WILL DO. WISH STEVE D WOULD GET ON WOULD LIKE TO DECUSS HIS 160 INSTALL. WILL BE ORDERING SIERA NOSE GEAR AND ALL OF THE ALU RIMS, NO BRAKES, HAVE A GOOD ONE JIM

RE: skylane
I peeled the vinyl waves off mine only and used krylon fusion spray paint (2 colors) to give it a better color scheme. No ca hinges for me either! Working on the rcs gas 180 exhaust system. I have the robart nose gear.
Happy landings Gunny |
RE: skylane
GUNNY, IS THE KRYLON HOLDING UP? AND WHAT TRIM PATTERN DID YOU GO WITH? 180? WOW THAT WILL FLY IT. JIM
|
RE: skylane
Well, I'm still building it so I cant say how the paint is holding up. But I have painted on covering materials before with good success. I'll have to post some pictures at a later date. The RCS gas engine is (1.80 c.i.) Is a 30 cc. So we shall see.

RE: skylane
That's what I thought. Hello, Gunny, I asked you a few questions on my last post (about which engine for the skylane (I went with the Zen G-38)), and you were very helpful. I must say that I am a HUGE fan of Mail Call on the History Channel and I know you aren't the same gunny, but the name is just so cool. All I can say is "Semper Fi, Carry On!"
|
RE: skylane
Unfortunetally for the guy on mail call, his real name is not Gunny. Mine is!
your welcome Gunny |
RE: skylane
I know that it is a "nick-name" for him, but but did not know it was your real-still a cool name. BTW his real is R. Lee Ermey and I am sure you know he is a main stream actor.

RE: skylane
Gunny,Iam going to look at what colors are avaible and maybe try that kind of paint. been useing testors model masters on plastic coverings, had very good luck so far, not sure where to look for the paint, but will start with wallmart. thanks for anwsering jim

RE: skylane
I, so far have used krylon on all my gasoline powered airplanes. But I know their not glow fuel proof. Their I use TopFlite Lustercote paints. This Krylon Fusion is somthing new, so I dont know much about it. However like in the past I always clear coat the krylon paints with their satin or crystal clear. Wall-mart and Ace hardware stores carry the Krylon brands. Just got the engine fitted to the fire wall.

THANKS FOR THE TIP,

RE: skylane
I'm pretty sure that there's a rule against discussng things like "stripping off the monokote and reglassing the plane" and not posting pictures to go along with it...even if it isn't done yet.
So post those pics NOW or "drop and give me twenty, maggot" [:@] |
RE: skylane
SDCrashmaster, your rite! but iam not able to post pictures, have a hp camera but cant do much with it. son will be coming from tenn in a week maybe he can? glassing went better than i thought it would, have found that letting it fully cure is the anwser to the sanding! Gunny, found fusion at sherman williams paint stores, will do a test scrap for the fuel test.

RE: skylane
Tested my exhaust manifold today on the engine. CHECK. worked a little bit on the firewall today. I know, I know, pictures! And I agree, pictures are worth a thousand words and helps gives ideas for the next modeler.

RE: skylane
:)Hello:
Just working on my H9 Skylane and thought I would share what I'm doing to my kit. (Basically creating a lot of work for myself) Spec: Engine- ASP 160 twin with onboard ignition Nose Gear - Sierra Precision " Awesome" Scheme - Throw away the vinyl and cut and peeled the covering off the fiberglass wingtips. Then sanded and filled the wing tips and painted blue. Unfortunately I was a dumb @&# and got overspray on my wings, so I recovered them. Questions to y'all - has anyone had any experience with this engine combo? I've read some posts on other threads, where guys are having to add a lot of nose weight, when running glow engines. Which would make sense the plane was designed around a heavy gasser. I'm going to do a prelimary weight and balance with all servo moved up front and if I have to do this, then all tail feathers will then be set up as pull/pull I'll post pictures latter. |
RE: skylane
Welcome.
I've done my tweeking of the needle valves/run up of the engine checking rpm's and transition. All looks good and ready for flight. gunny |

Finished it. Flies absolutelly awsome, even at 20 Lbs. Lands like a trainer. Rcs 180 is plenty of power.

RE: skylane
WOW Gunny! That is one gorgeous Skylane! Much improved over the stock airplane.

Verry nice Cessna. I like the earlier schemes as well. It will be real crowd pleaser at the field.
Here is mine after a repaint: |
RE: skylane
You guys are making me hot for a Cessna now. Cut it out! These things look great!

RE: skylane
Yak18, I know what you mean.
It's all TLH101's fault. I saw his and how he re-painted it. I just had to get one. ;) TLH101, Flies great right? What's your all up weight? Yak18, It does look great and it just takes 5 minutes to peel up the vinyl "wave" color scheme and just add your own. Thanks, Gunny |
