Pizazz

Anyone fly one of these? There are two of them in my club, mine and our past presidents' Both fly like a dream and we both love them. Dumb***** overtook me a couple of months ago and I wrecked mine. Sat it in the garage until last Sunday when I got it out and put it all back together and recovered the damage.
What a good move. Flew it all day today and did I have a ball or what. I forgot what a sweet plane this thing is. Too bad it's been taken off the market.

There are still a few setting around on some hobby store shelves. I liked it better than its replacement, the Twist. Although I must say, the Twist is starting to grow on me a little bit.

I had one with a YS 91 on it.. a good fun predictable plane... I lost intrest in it (pluss it was getting kinda sloppy and worn) so I gutted it and gave it away......one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Haven't done the "Twist" thing yet but I know my Pizazz with a GMS 47 on it flies like a striped ***** monkey and will land at walking speed. I've got the ailerons set up on Ch.1 and Ch.6. This allows me to set up flaps, flaperons, and mix with elevator for some amazing responses. Turning on the elev/flap mix allows for some very nice landings.

Jim, I just picked one of these up with a NT 46 installed. I use a Hitec eclipse transmitter--could you talk a little more about your transmitter set up for ailerons and elevator on the Pizzaz? By chance, do you use an eclipse transmitter? If so, I would like to try to duiplicate your program as a starting point.

Jim, I've mentioned it before on here but the thing that always puzzled me about the pizazz was the tightest inverted flat spins were always done with full up elevator. Never was able to figure this one out.

I use a Futaba T6XAS with ailerons hooked up on Ch 1 and Ch 6 (2 servos). This allows flaperons and mixing with elevator. I use dual rates and elev/flaperon mixing as set up in the program on the radio. I don't really know how to tell you how to set up a Hitec radio. Are they compatible with Futaba?

That's wierd, I have been using DOWN elevator to do flat spins..........
Guess I gotta try using UP and see what happens. I know it will do about a million of them before hitting the ground. ASK me how I know that.

Jim,

I use both the T6XA and the Hitec Eclipse radios. They program very similiar to each other. The menus are pretty similiar as well. As long as you know how to get into them.

Happy flying.

JimRoss,

At altitude, stall, full right rudder/idle, full up/left aileron. Start slowly crossing the aileron to the right and adding throttle. Develops into a beautiful stationary INVERTED flat spin.

Why inverted when you have full up elevator? Rudder and engine torque maybe?

Hi Dan,

I use flaperon setup almost exclusively on my eclipse and its relatively straightforward to setup. As Jim was saying setup left aileron on channel 1, right on 6. Then enter programming mode on your eclispe and move to FLPN. Click on clear to remove the inhibit.

Now at this point the wing servos are in flaperon mode. Move the stick to the right and left. If the ailerons don't move the correct way you can go into the REV menu and reverse the ailerons.

Assuming that's OK you will now also notice that turning the flaps knob (at the top on the left - marked as VR1 I think) will move both both ailerons up or down at the same time. You will have to play with this a bit to get the setup you want. You can also enable elevator to flaps (for those tighter loops) mixing by going to ELE->FLAP mode and pressing clear to remove the inhibit. At this point you will also have to set the percent mix which governs how much the flaperons move for a given amount of elevator movement.

You can use the LAND mode to give yourself a given flaperon deflection for landing. The LAND mode allows you to mixin the appropriate elevator deflection so the plane doesn't pitch up or down at the same time.

One thing you can also do with flaperon setup is to have aileron differential - ie more up movement than down movement. I haven't done this but it is done again in the FLPN menu.

Hope this was helpful

I bought one at the club auction this spring. It was set up for a saito engine, and mini servos in the tail. If any one is interested in this bird PM me. I wont have time to do any thing with it for a while.

Xanatos,
thanks for stepping in here. I did not know how to set up a Hitec transmitter.
On my Futaba I set up a very small percentage of flaps with the elevator, otherwise it does some crazy things. Inverted flight is interesting also. A touch of down elevator makes it climb like crazy. Also outside loops are much easier when the flaps kick in negative with down elevator. My Tx also has a switch to turn of the mix so you can get straight action with the elevator.

I have a question for you. When I took flying lessons (full size) and I added flaps for take off or landing I had to add some down elevator to keep the nose from balloning up. On my model, when adding flaps I have to use up elevator or it pitches down hard. Why 'dat?

I'd love to have it. What do you want for it? Maybe we can make a deal.

Thanks for the response on the hitec setup.

Do you ever use flaperons in the "up" position for 3D acrobatics? Is there an occassion when you want up elevator and down flaperons? Up flaps and up elevator or down and down?

Is it important to put in exponential on the main control surfaces for the pizzaz? If so, how much do you like to use?

Obviously, I'm a novice at 3D flying. So, please ignore my questions if they ort too far off the wall. I probably just need to find a good source for 3D setup and basic maneuvers. Appreciate any suggestions you all might have.

The airframe on mine fell apart, ribs etc fractured away. It flew OK, but nothing spectacular. The Twist for $99 is the same as the $129 Pizazz with a bigger wing and 3D control surfaces. It's better, but not much. I'd like to find a nice low price 3D ARF that is actually light.

Don't know why that would be - unless you've got the flaperons set to raise rather than lower. Then the flaperons act as spoilerons (someone correct me if I have the term wrong) the net result of which would be to pitch the aircraft down. To correct you would have to raise elevator. Some people set their plane up like this if they are having trouble getting it to sink on a landing approach. I've also heard some 3ders use this in the harrier move to stop wing rocking - never done that myself I'm simply not that good...

Sorry Dude;
Already made the deal for it. Now I can fly one with each hand. Easy to tell them apart, I wrecked mine and rebuilt it. Has two inch checkerboard on the wings and the new one has one inch.

Was flying mine yesterday and tried some new stuff with it. AWESOME!
Doing real TIGHT inside loops, decided to do a few outside loops. Does outside as tight as inside. Did one inside and soon as it came out did an outside. Makes a big figure 8 only on its' side. Like a cuban 8 without the rolls.
I was doing outside loops about 40 feet about ground. I'm telling you this plane is Phenomeeeelll, Phantastick, aw hell, it's great.

My Pizazz is on the charger for tomorrow morning. I put one of the new .82 Saitos in it a month or so ago. I've been using a 14x4 Zinger and having too much fun.

I'll find one to hijack sooner or later.

Or maybe I should go for the Tower Uproar; they still sell them, just out of stock.
