Big problem with ARF!! (Twist)
 

I'm building a Twist and was putting the stab in the slot to mark it and get ready to glue it. Well, I centered it in the slot perfectly. I went to measure from the stab tip to wing tip and it's off by 1/2 inch. Puzzled I was. Well measured from the wing tip to the front of the fuselage and pretty much dead on. HMMMM.... Then looked down the fuselage and bingo. The tail is off. The whole ass of the plane is crooked, to the right by 1/2 inch. Damn!!!! What should I do? Is this a major flaw to try and get it replaced or will it be ok? It's excactly 1/2 inch. Won't that throw the rudder off too? What should I do!!!!!!

Give Horizon a call on monday and let them replace it...........

Are they pretty good to deal with? I suppose I would have to ship the whole plane , or not?

they will probably make you ship the plane back and they might pick up the shipping. They are fairly easy to deal with and have a good track record. I just returned a fuse that was damaged during shipping and it was a pretty easy deal.

Yea, but what if you didn't buy the plane from Horizon? I got it at Realm of Hobbies and Games(www.hobbiesandgames.net) Will they still replace the fusealage or do I have to go through the website which I purchased it from?

In a case like this, problem was not shipping damage, Horizon would be the folks to deal with...... its their plane. Now if you had purchased it local and they happened to have several on the shelf then you might be able to get them to exchange it and let them deal with Horizon.

Yeah -- I just bought a Twist from a hobbytown USA store, and when I got it home (4 states away) I pulled everythingout and realized that the nose of the plane was off a little -- from the firewall back everything was fine, but one of the pseudo-cowling sides was angle in about 1/4 inch more than the other.

I called horizon, and they said they could replace the fuse, but I would have to ship the old one back.

I did a little test fit of my engine, and everything still fits, so I wasn't going to bother with them - too much hassle.

Finished building the plane yesterday -- looks great, everything else was fine, I'm just waiting on a replacement muffler to show up and I'll be ready to fly.

As a LHS owner I would make the switch and then send the bad one back to Hanger 9. Try both ways and see witch one works best for you. Dennis

My Modeltech Magic Extra had the same built in flaw to it as well. I had already completed a lot of the construction to the ARF before I noticed it and didn't think that I could send it back.

I went ahead and completed the construction but I made sure that wing and the stab were exactly parallel. When I seated the wing to drill out the wing bolt holes they were off to one side by quite a bit.

As long as the wing is even with the stab you shouldn't have any problems. I fly mine quite a bit and haven't seen any tracking problems at all. If the wing and stab aren't parallel you wind up with a plane that won't track right in a loop. During a loop if the stab is farther back on one side than the other, that part of the elevator on the stab is raising higher than the rest of the elevator and that causes you to yaw to that side. If the wing and stab are even then you shouldn't have any problems.
