Ultra Stick 1.20
Could anyone tell me from experience or by other means if a G-38 would be to much engine for a Ultra Stick 1.20? I've seen one flown once with a G-23 and was not overly impressed. At full throttle it was not very fast and definitely not unlimited vertical. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Hello Bipelover
I don't have a G-38 so I don't know the power of that engine, but I have a Fox 2.4 on my 120 US and it has unlimited vertical!! If the two engine are close in power output you will have fun!! My Fox swings a 20x8 prop. Doug |

The G-38 isn't too much power, but it is too much weight for a good flying model.
However, if you lop an inch or two off the front end and move the firewall back, along with adding a landing gear that will permit using the proper size prop, I imagine it could give you some thrills. If you don't already have the G-38, you would be better off buying a ZDZ-40, if overpowered gassers are your thing. |

The RCS 180 would probably be a good choice. It's a little lighter than the ZDZ40 and less expensive.

I modified the firewall ( cut it out for the muffler) to mount a Fuji 32 as close in as possible, Came out 14.5 pounds with the elevator and rudder servos in the tail. The previous weekend I saw one with a G-23 fly and mine didn't do that much better. I tried an APC 17x8 and a APC 18x6 wide 3D. Both turned at between 7400 and 7600 rpm. Who wants a stick that flies "scale like". Horizon list's the g-38 with a 18x10 at 7100 to 7400 rpm and it is heavier than the Fuji 32. If the numbers are accurate I wouldn't think it would be that impressive. Too much - no. Too heavy for the power out - probably. If I had it to do again I would go a little extra and go Fox or zdz. Hope this helps.

I first put a Brison 2.4 and then a Quadra 35 just to see how it would do. The Brison is a little stronger in the vertical but it is still a blast to fly with the Quadra. It will hover at 3/4 throttle and I bought it used for $150.00. The Brison was $500.00.Ain't that kind of funny?
