monocoupe 90
I recently purchased a Kangke Monocoupe 90 and I am trying to decide what I want to power it with. I am down to 2 engines , the Magnum .91 fs and the Irvine .72 2 stroke. I am leaning towards the Irvine ( really like Irvines). It seems that most people are going with 4 strokes in this plane. Should I forget about the 2 stroke and go 4 stroke? Do I need the added weight up front that a four stroke offers?

Just a personal preference, I think a classic like yours or a cub deserves a 4 stroke to not have the scream of a 2 stroke glow.
You'll probably have to add weight with either the 2 or 4 stroke. Forgot to mention that with your planes short nose moment, if you use a Higley Heavy Hub it'll cut down the amount of lead up front. It won't look that much out of scale in front of the prop. |

I have a Saito 100 in mine and no additional weight was needed. It has plenty of extra power when needed.

I too would like to buy this plane and put my OS 120 in it but the Manufacturer list weight at 12 - 14 lbs. I was reluctant to go with the 120, now you say a 100 has more than enough power ??? I took my Saito 100 out of an 11 lb. GP Spacewalker for lack of power, I can't believe it would be enough for the Mono Coupe, and we're not talking about any real fancy flying either, just everyday aerobatics !! |

I put a Satio 100 in Kangke's Monocoupe-90, the 60 version, smaller of the two they offer and it turned out to be just fine. No extra weight needed. Definetly agree it sounds better than a 2 stroke.

naturally it is fine. the 60 weighs half of the big 90. "no weight needed "has no relevance to the 90 size

OK, so we're talking apples & oranges here. Everyone was refering to the Monocoupe 90 when in fact it is a Monocoupe "60", a different kettle of fish.

Kangke make two Monocoupes, both are the model 90A. They have a 1/4 scale with a 96 inch wing that I fly with a RCS 140 gas engine and it has all the power it needs. The RCS 140 has about the same power as a good 120 two stroke. It weighs 13 pounds 13 ounces.
My son has the Kangke 1/5 scale with a 76 inch wing. His is powered by a Saito 100 and it also has as much power as it needs, in fact his vertical is better than mine. But a Monocoupe going straight up just doesn't look right. His plane is around 9 pounds. The large one has flaps, they are a builder option on the small one. My son did not use them and his roll is much faster than mine. With the flaps down the big one actually lands slower than the small one, but they both land slower than most trainers. They are both fun, both fly very well and are beautiful in the sky. Quality is outstanding, fiberglass and paint are some of the best Ive seen. Even the small one has a two piece wing on a tube, a nice feature for a 60-90 size plane. |

I've got the larger version of the two. Mine is powered by a G26 and it flies great. PLenty of power to do lots of scale and non-scale aerobatics. Has a smoke system installed too. Didn't have to add any tail or nose weight whatsoever. Balanced out perfectly.

well I got a great deal on a Irvine.72 and this is what I'm going to use. I think the "sound" thing is neat but I also think a great running engine is cool too[8D].

Wow, stock pictures of the Kangke Monocoupe do it no justice at all! SBaugz, your plane is really spectacular! Anyone got pictures of the 60 size?
