RE: First 3D Plane??
Guys any more suggestions or picks??
|
RE: First 3D Plane??
I had the Magic, Magic Extra and Funtana ... Funtana was the best, not only 3D but can kinda do sport pattern easily, roll rates are nuts. I tried her on an SC46 and Saito 72, the 46 was nice for sport pattern.

RE: First 3D Plane??
It's a great plane, Fun Flyer. The only thing that I'll suggest is to just keep the rates a little low until you get used to it. Also, use lots of Expo in your radio. If you follow the threads on the Funtana, you'll see that there are 2 types of Funtana 40's......those that snap with up elevator and those that don't. Nobody has ever figured out exactly why it happens, but if you get one that snaps, you'll want to ease into it and get used to the handling characteristics before cranking up the rates. Also, the plane slows down QUICK, don't be afraid to use throttle on your landings, or you might pancake it. I find that mine comes in much smoother with a little bit of throttle as it flairs and touches down.

RE: First 3D Plane??
First time I flew the Funtana I used pretty high rates, I wanted to do a roll and ended up doing almost 2! Hehehe ... I never saw the plane snap on me. Landings are a breeze, a little power brings her in nice.

RE: First 3D Plane??
Funtanas (40 and 90 both) are a blast. These are the best small planes I have had in many years, not to mention how affordable they are.
The 40 size is the one on which I really learned to Torque Roll: you have to keep it in the TR (where as a lot of the thick wings -like U-cando or Flip- almost stay in the hover by themselves). Over here, we usually have 10~15 Mph of trade winds, and its great to see the Funtana T Rolling all the way down the runway. The F 40 also does nice walls and parachutes, but I had to mix Elev to Flaps. All that is learned on the F 40 makes it easy to execute on the larger planes. |
RE: First 3D Plane??
Guys I have a 6 channel radio it has dual rates so I can put it on low rate or on high rate but I dont have Expo.

RE: First 3D Plane??
What could be a good and chep radio you recommend?
|
RE: First 3D Plane??
I would save up a little and get a Futaba 9Cap great radio for the price does everything, and easy to program. You can probably get one in the low 300.00
just my opinion:D |
RE: First 3D Plane??
does it include servos??
|
RE: First 3D Plane??
You can buy the radio alone for about $250. The whole setup is in the $400 range. The 7CAP is a good radio too and for $300 you get a PCM receiver and digital servos. If you buy it at Tower they generally have a discount for bigger purchases so you can come out pretty good. I dont imagine you can find the 9C with servos in the $300 range.

RE: First 3D Plane??
it's not that heavy, it weights about 5.5lb. read to fly. i can hover it but not that good, just learning.
