I have a Hanger 9 Ultrastick-40, with an Futaba 9C radio does anybody have any good sources of info on programing the quad flaps with this radio? Futaba has some on its website & Hanger 9 has nothing. Looking for more info.

What would be a good engine on this plane? Considering OS 46AX - 50SX - 70SurpassII.

Mine had its maiden flight yesterday. OS 70 Surpass; plenty of power, but I had to build a hatch area in the bottom of the fuselage, just ahead of the tail group, for the battery. The extra effort of doing that saved having to slap several ounces of weight to the tail. I have been told that this model builds nose-heavy regardless of what engine is used; but a big four stroke is asking for it. If you go with a four stroke you definitely need to lose the supplied two-ton engine mount. I would have changed it regardless, but some report good results with it.

Much of the hardware also needs to be circular-filed. But for a $130 ARF that is built as nicely as this one is, who cares? The craftsmanship, covering, etc., is simply outstanding. A newbie won't know any better and can use the supplied stuff, which probably works just fine. An experienced modeler will have plenty of stuff in his junk box to cover replacing the Pacific Rim stuff.

Mine has a severe pitch-down, requiring major up elevator trim. This is, of course, totally unsat, as the model can only be trimmed for one speed. Go slower or faster, and nose drops or climbs. I'm not sure what the cause is; wing/stab incidence is the probable culprit, but I'm going to add up-thrust to the engine mount first, since that will be the easiest of the remedies available.

As for the quad flap programming, there are some threads around here regarding doing so with the 9C. I have a 9Z, and used the sail plane menu, putting throttle on J3 and the Airbrake channel. Since the sail plane menu has a lot of four-servo wing programs, it seems to be the smart thing to do. The 9C doesn't have a plethora of free program mixes, so if you tried to program both crow and conventional flaps using the regular plank menu, I'm betting you would run out of mixers.

But some comments in other threads have got me wondering whether or not this crow function is really worth the added weight and complexity. I didn't get an opportunity to try it yesterday, since I was too busy trying to isolate the pitch-down problem. Hoepfully I'll get this sorted and can proceed with exploring the full performance envelope of this model.

Any luck yet?
I've had the same disaster when i tried to program my Ustick .60
The futaba website just gives you hints and if you know your 9ca well
there's a chance you'll be able to do it. I wasn't.
Fortunately a nice rcu member (hi fred) mailed me a
ms word programming spreadsheet that worked on the first try.

This is actually my 3rd plane. started on a Sig LT 40 then went to a Avistar. Did find a book at the Hobby shop by Harry Hingley programing the 9c - 26 bucks. Might get it. Would appreciate it if you could e-mail the instructions you have. Still have not decided on a engine for this plane.

I followed the Futaba faq to a tee and it worked perfectly. I also programmed a mixer to turn the flaps into full span ailerons with the flip of a switch...talk about fast rolls! I was able to do the same thing with my 8u super before it was stolen.

I also followed the Futaba FAQ's and it worked for me. I had to change things slightly though.....I have a Y-harness connecting my flaps (only thing I can't do is Full-Span ailerons). I keep meaning to change this, but keep forgetting about it.
If you're looking to get a book, get the newer one out by Anne Marie Cross. She actually wrote the 9C manual that comes with the radio.
