AeroPro G Shark
Can anyone offer up any information about the AeroPro 84" G-Shark and how it flies? Good/Bad points.

Excellent plane. A next advanced step from the Stinger series. Mine is the Mk 1 series and has a ST 3000. The Mk 2 has a bit longer tail moment as one of the design improvements. Some pilots tried the Q35 and G38's on the Mk 1's and tended to nose over often. I think the 3000 , 3250 or Moki 1.8 are perfect. It will land at slooooww speed with no tip stall.

I had one of these a while back - I increased the fin height for better control. It tended to yaw a bit at speed. I put flaps on mine and it floated to a landing even though it was a tad heavy. I flew it with a saito 270 twin.

We had a couple in our flying club about 8 years ago. Flew nice, but would tip stall on landing if allowed to slow down to much. So keep the speed up and fly it on.
I'm pretty sure there not being made any more and I also believe they were made in Mexico. |

Compaired to my Midwest Extra 300, Aero Pro Laser 200 and Byron Glasair, it's like a giant trainer to fly. |

Were there a lot of different models made by g-shark I have an arf balsa model I have been told is a G-SHARK it is a 87" wingspan missing tail and alerons and do not know much about it other than that would like to find outif these parts are still avail. or plans other than building same

I fly mine with ZDZ 40, dry weight 6.5 kg. It can be hovered with less than half throttle.
Very straight knife-edge, snap is fast, and landing is comfortable. |

I'm hoping you guys can help me. I picked up an 84" AeroPro G Shark at a fly in and have some questions about this plane. The balance point in the instructions has it typed in as 5 and change however this number is crossed out and a hand written one is above the crossed out number. The hand written balance point is 4 and change. What is the correct balance point? Also , is there somewhere where I can purchase a canopy and cowl for this plane? I don't have the canopy and the cowl is so butchered up. I read some where that this plane is simmilar to a Lainer laser.

Inherited a G-Shark 1. Saw this one fly and it would tip stall if you blinked. Equipt w/Q50. I am refurbishing same adding a dorsal fin and more fin/rudder to reduce yaw. Plan to add tip boards over wing tips and if that does not do it will add flaps. Wish me luck. Jimwhim

Sorry I can't help with the exact cg location, I traded off my G-Shark last year. Just use 28 to 30% of cord.
The canopy can be had from Tower if you search their replacement canopy section. Look for Great Planes and Midwest 1.60 scale Extra. With a trimming of the red section, it will look like factory. Your plane must have been too tail heavy when you saw it fly. The tip stall can be corrected by reflexing both ailerons up 1/8". Mine landed about like the G. Stinger with the reflex and ST 3000. So many pilots were having problems with nose over using the 38 to 50cc gas engines; that's the reason for the MkII with a couple of inches longer fuse. If you'd drop down to a lighter 1.8 to 2.10 engine, I know you would have an easier plane to fly. Mine also had the rudder pull/pull up above the wing. |

Years and years ago when I first heard of a G-SHARK it had a bad reputation..everyone called them a g-snap. They would drop a wing like a rock if slowed down a hair to much on landing...But the best g-shark story I ever saw was one time A guy was flying at about 300 feet, we heard a loud BOOM, and the entire motor and cowl pulled off of the plane and slowly seperated like stage of a rocket in the nasa movies. well the motor and cowl started feeling the gravity pretty fast ,and fell with a nasty thump..and sickly bounce ....the airplane now obscenely tail heavy and in a long tail low mush came in like a funky parachute..it slammed down but only bent the gear and broke an elevator ..it was one of the wildest crashes I ever viewed.

If you love to do snap rolls and flat spins of all types, the G-Shark might be for you. I can get mine to do a knife edge loop (although it looks more like an egg) with a 1.8 Moki. I have the G-Shark MK II version and it is a bit squirelly on slow landings. I wouldn't recommend it for someones first big scale project.

I have been flying a G-Shark MK1 for a couple of years. I am using a US41 and it flies like a big stunt trainer. Balanced at 4.5 inches from the LE at the fuselage it floats in with no sign of a snap tendency. Loops, rolls, horizontal and verical eights even did a blender a few times (scared the heck out of me!) I am building a MK2 for a Quadra52 and cutting out a few pounds, should be even better! Okay well, i have a very old model G-shark. It's basically a low wing trainer with a 88 inch wing span. the fusealage was painted over, and the wings have a dope material coloring on them. If anybody has any clue of what i'm talking about, i need to find out what the throws are and the CG.

i think its time to revitalize this thread! lol. I see by the one user, it balances well at 4.5 in. from the leading edge, but does anyone have any idea what the throws should be? looing to set up dual rates for the one I just bought. beautiful plane, cant wait to fly it! decided to put a dle 35ra in this one. hoping it will be sufficient power.

Had one of these about 12-13 years ago with a G-38 on it.
Flew fantastic! Never had any of the tip stall problems mentioned above. Point rolls, snaps, loops, Cuban 8's, tumbles, etc etc.... whatever you throw at it, it'll do. Mine wouldn't hover with the G-38 on it but I presume these guys putting the 45's-55's are getting them to hover and everything else. I gave mine away, wish I kept it. |

Looks sharp. Like the scheme a lot!
I remember the airfoiled tail! I feel like this was kind of a novel idea back when this bird came out. Usually a sport plane back in those times would've had flat balsa tail feathers. That's probably why it flew so darn good. Nice plane you will love flying it |
