World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
Just a quick general post......... i got my first World Models Kit a few days ago and was very disapointed in the Quailty considering the price....... most of ppls views or comments have been quite/very good when it comes to world models....... i got a P-40 the cowl looks great, pilot looks crap :) (hes defeinly not going to fly this)...... covering looks very cheap, and the glue well....... looks like the kinda white paper glue..... soo i have alot of work ahead of me to get this in the air....... i will need to strengthen up most of the fuse, the hinges look ok......... the instructions leave alot to the imagination :D............ Overal as this is my first World Models ARFT it will be my last, ive found Great Planes and Hanger 9 Far Far better quailty............. So am i just unlucky in this kit or does it sum up World Models ????????? Thx |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Dragon ... I have seen a few P40s fly ... they will not fall apart ... the white glue is probaby hot glue. How much is a WM vs. GP? The P40 is totally non-scale and comes in hot enough, not too hot. You really do not need to work on the plane. She will hold up ... seen quite a few take a beating.
I have flown the: i. WM T34 ... flies as smooth as silk, great first low wing (Good instructions) ii. WM Rambler 45 ... really nice to fly and superb 2nd plane, not too acrobatic but flies really good (Good instructions) iii. WM Sky Raider Mach II ... great for pylon (Good instructions) iv. WM Super Chipmunk ... SUPERB plane!!! She can knife edge with almost no coupling! (Good instruction) All the above planes have most acceptable construction. Non of them came apart etc ... the T34 I flew was over 6 years old. |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
DragonHeart : <snip>....covering looks very cheap... <snip> My Ultimate 30 and Zero have nice coverings. The Ultimate has over 250 flights, and some of the trim has loosened, but I was always happy with the covering. I never heard of a pilot being included with a WM plane. I never heard of anyone complaining about WM, structurally, and I've been satisfied. Which makes me wonder... are you certain this is a World Models plane? Best wishes, Dave Olson |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Yup im positive this is World Models............ seems it says so on the Box
[link=http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/products/airplanedetails.php?airplaneid=27#]http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/products/airplanedetails.php?airplaneid=27#[/link] The Sructure needs some work, i found 4 plywood parts loose once i opened the kit up (was still sealed) must have jad a knock in transport but no damadge apart from these loose parts, hence looks like thiers not much glue thier atall..... i guess i must have been unlucky as allways and got the one done built from the work experience guy [:@] |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Scar ... you want some WM pilots? I got quite a few!!! I think they are so fugly that your LHS removed them and burnt them. :)
Dragon ... I think you got a bad plane. It happens. |

I have flown and assembled many WM Planes, P-82, P-51, Corsair...All had great covering and no bad flying characteristics..My original P-51D I flew the hell out of for 5 yrs...Must have had at least over 1,000 flights on her...went through 2 motors...Then I sheeted and glassed and painted her and sold it ... Can't beat their quality or characteristics...THe rotating gear like most all ARF rotating gear are OK but have their faults if not set up properly,,They do fine on paved runways..but that is in all arf rotating gear...Over all just repaint the pilot or send them to me I like painting them...Check and re-glue as needed which is expected ....I always fuel proof the tank area with epoxy or finishing resin..and CA all visible formers for good measure..I also add "fuel" proofing to all visible retract well areas and reglue, strengthen the retract mounts on ALL my Planes regardless if it is a kit or an Arf... WM have the Best ARF's for the money bar none and I bet there are at least 25 modelers that can back us up on this...Don't Worry FLY It you'll love it....THE COVERING THEY USE IS LOW TEMP TYPE like ECONOKOTE..so use low heat ot take out the wrinkles.,..The camo pattern is sprayed on paint just like on the Sptifire and Airacobra they make...Check this link out//
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_24...page_22/tm.htm This is my latest WM bash... check out my converted bright pilot to a TUSKEGEE Pilot... Good Luck and again save the pilots I will take them...and give them new life... ;) |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Nemesis ... mine are the funny guy with a moustache. What's your mailing address? Hahaha ... want fresh fuel tank sets? I crashed so many planes that I always use the previous one and I have a few spare for anyone ... :)

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
The P-40 is not a very good example for judging World Models. It is not anywhere near scale and is ugly.
I've had many World planes and have been very satisfied with most of them. |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
I don't have the experience of others here, but I've had a World Star 40 and a Extra Sports 30 - both were superbly finished, and both were soundly constructed and proved tough. My Extra flies superbly, and apart from the thin landing gear, I can't say a bad thing about it.
It sounds like you got a bad kit. |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
I have a WM Super Sports and the quality is pretty good. The kit came with a pilot head that I tossed aside and used my own instead. The instructions are a bit unusual in that it uses symbols and a lot ofdrawings. If you have a few kits behind you however they make sense and are easy to follow. The wheels were too small for my clubs grass field so I went up to 3" wheels. Other than that everything else in the kit was used as is. Even the fuel tank is a good size for a 46 size engine. Plane flys fast and easy to control. Landings are no problem either. :D

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
No complains with WM models. I have some of them and all are good manufactured.
List that I flew ULTIMATE 30 EXTRA 300 120 (yellow and red) CAP 232 120 SUPER CHIPMUNK STIK ALL FLY SUPERB |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Hi Fastsky
If you used your "Own Head" are you now Headless? Ray |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
My first plane was a WM Super Stunts 40. Arrived with cracked fuse and horribly warped wing. No amount of heating and tweaking would have done any good. I suspect the damaged to the fuse occured in transit. The warp was built in to the wing.
It has been mulled over a few times before, but the truth is you get what you pay for. Arf's have come a long way, and they continue to improve. Being mass produced, every now and then you'll hear... Dragon ... I think you got a bad plane. It happens. Jim C Jim C |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
World models is actually a good supplier , unfortunitly the P40 is just a real bad example of what they can do .
Good examples of the P40 in ARF are VQ - will run you about $250 Kyosho - $220 - discontinued but still can be found in some Canadian model distributors Yellow - $750 - top of the line , serious scale Sure Flight $199 , new version is great match for E -Flight Good luck with your plane I hope you can fix the problems with it |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
I just finished a "World Models" Super Sport Senior .90. I will be taking it to Fla. next week. Has anyone had one of these and can advise me how it went? I've had great luck with thier PT-26 and Rambler .45 (well built and terrific flers!). Thanks
|
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
jim - saw the plane fly with a small gasser, I think it it was some RCS130 or whatever ... flew really really nice. The owner had trouble trying to land, the plane did not wanna touch down, floated in ever so nice.

jimg: I have one of these with an OS 91. four stroke. Its a great flyer. Fairly slow and very stable. It will do basic aerobatics; rolls, loops, spins and such. Throw away the landing gear spats. They hang up on the grass and are always sideways. Balanced without any added weight. I suppose a 120 would pull it better, but I am not going to change it out. It will do everything I want except really really big loops. Stalls straight ahead and slows way down for landing. You said you are finished so I guess you have already had the pleasure of hooking up the pull pull system for the elevator inside the fuselage? Could have used some real small fingers to get into the fuselage to hook that system up. I think you will like it. Good luck. Randy |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Thanks for the info. My SSS 90 has a Saito 90, I had to mill alum blocks (1/4"x5/16") bolted inside the mounting rails which were set at thier widest in order to use the supplied mount). I realized that the spats would be useless so didn't put them on. I could tell that the pull pull for the elevator would be a challenge so used an arrow shaft from the servo to the bellcrank assembly in the tail (nice unit!). Jim G.

I have had 2 WM ARTF's, the 40 sized Clipped Wing Cub which is still flying, and a T34 which is no more (lost due to faulty battery pack). The T34 was the nicest looking and best flying plane I've ever had, will have to get another sometime. I would definitely have another WM plane.

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Dragonheart - I'm sure that there are bad kits out there from every manufacturer. I have built kits from many ARF manufacturers and WM is still my favorite choice. WM nitro kits I've had have all been amazing quality and superb flyers.
WM .26 Cub - My avatar... need I say more? Assembly a pain if you have big hands! WM Rambler 30 - The only plane I've bought two of! WM Utlimate 30 - Absolute joy to fly (pain to set up) WM Cap 232 - Great for standard aerobatics WM Zen 50 - Rock solid construction... F3A pattern ship On the other hand I didn't like EP all together WM Rambler EP (First batch) - okay but needed a 1mm shim to get the wing parallel to the horiz. stab. WM Clipped Wing Cub EP (First batch) - Warped wing I've given my comments to WM for the EP series and hear that they are making all the required changes. Other WM kits I've flown but not owned WM Super Sports 30 - recommended as 2nd plane WM Super Sports 40 - also recommended as 2nd plane WM P-51 (40 size) - good sport scale mustang WM T-34 - great first warbird All in all, I believe WM do make great ARFs. Maybe the P40, due to its low sales volume, never got the attention it needed to improve. I would suggest you write them and see if you can help them improve it. |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
I think the WM P40 was just an example of bad research on WM part, no scale outline , bad wheel position , ect . Sometimes manufacturers are quck to bring porducts to market and simply ignor basic good research , the plane could have been so much closer to scale without major cost increases .

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
Buddy of mine bought the Groovy 50 and mounted a OS 70 on it. Good looking plane and flew like it was on rails. Also one of his landings was not as graceful as usual and the gear bent but was not removed like I thought it would have. For $140 bucks I am getting one just to store away, great pattern ship.

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
I got a few WM planes and they were all nice. The first was the Rambler 45, really nice plane to fly and wonderful as a 2nd plane. After that was the Skyraider Mach II, that plane I sold after 2 flights, just too light for my liking.
I then got the Super Chipmunk, for me this is the best aerobatic plane you can buy for its price. It will KE with very little coupling and it flies so well. My third is just ready for maiden tomorrow, the SS40 ... the plane is easy to build save for a couple of minor mods, hope it flies well! I did fly the T34 and I must say its great for a 2nd plane. Okay the P40 looks really bad but then its like 1 model out of so many! Any of you guys seen the new 60 sized Extra 300 (mini version of the 160 one) and the Ultimates? They look great!!! |
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
tIANci, do you ever sleep? It's late on that side of the world, what are you doing online? :D
|
RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!
tIANci - yeah... when i saw the Groovy i was like... is this the conservative WM? the ultimates and extras look GREAT! i'm really regretting the small car now! that 27% ultimate would be sweet... *sigh* i have hard enough time getting my funtana 40 in the car let alone a % acrobat. but WM continues to be my fav. I'm about ready to start on my second Rambler 30 now with a new O.S.52 Surpass for power. Should be sweet.
