Does anybody else do this? ARF building thing...
Hi!
I use the plastic bags the ARF wings come in as covers when glueing the wing halves together and this protects the whole wing panels from getting epoxied up by my fingers when I'm adjusting the assembly and cleaning the inevitable epoxy ooze in the center seam. I cover the entire wing except a few inches in the very center. Anyone else do this too, I found it saves me tons of time and annoyance when I put the wings together. Filip |

This is the method recommended by Hanger 9 for assembly of the US40. They also recommend tape on the bottom of the joint (after the excess is wiped off) to prevent any epoxy from dripping out the bottom or spreading over the covering.
Works great! |

If you put tape on the joint, be sure the surface is clean and you press the tape down well. I used some marginal quality masking tape and it wicked out some epoxy. Now the bottom of my Aresti's wing has a bit (not much) of a epoxy mess on the bottom. :( Without the tape, I could have kept an eye on it and cleaned up any runs.

This is an excerpt from the Ultra Stick 60 manual.
Note: Use the plastic wing bags as a means of keeping epoxy from smearing on the wings. Just slip one on each panel and use masking tape to hold them in place. |

Here's something that I saw in a manual someplace, (I forget)...
Before epoxying the wing, use masking tape and run it around the wing cord right at the edge where the wing joins. DO this for both halves. Now epoxy the wing halves together and take care to clean them like you normally would. The tape will at least keep any excess epoxy from sticking to the wing. If some sneaks out, just use a knife to trim it off, then peel the tape off for a nice finish. |

We use masking tape within 1/16 of inch of wing joints drill 1/16 pin holes in both half's then put on epoxy. When you put the two half's together the extra will come out and then use alcohol to wipe up the extra then pull tape off and furnish wiping the joint and your done. you now have a very clean joint. the pin holes you put in will act a rivets keeping everything snug and tight
Its a good thing they have spell check or I would be in big truble as my fingers do not always hit the right keys lol------ |
