caution, us 60 totoled.

just thought you should all know,i destroyed my h9 us 60 yesterday, the reason why it went in was i lost my elivator control.doing a close inspection i found that the pull/pull fiber had worn through where i had run it through the outside eye of the servo arm on the elevator servo, just like the system the termagator used and showed pictures of back earlier in this post, the system i used for the pull/pull was a sullivan #521 pull/pull cable kit.the kevlar cable needs to be run through a rounded surface as in a metal eye bolt, somthing that will not wear on the fiber.i do not know whut the termagator used as a pull/pull cable but the sharp edge on the servo arm hole cut the kevlar cable on my 12th flight, lost the plane, destroyed the engine, and radio.just a warning i thought others should know about,i will get another stick, they are a lot of fun.arniebarn..

Pull/Pull and kevlar

I was interested in your comments as I recently lost a Goldberg Ultimate for a similar reason. I lost it during a spin that I could not get it to come out of. Later inspection shoewed the kevlar was cut through where it was riding on the rudder connector. Just set up a pull/pull rudder on my H9 Edge but did not use the Kevlar, going with the plastic coated steel cable and you can bet I will check it out from time to time.

Did you use ultra-thin CA when installing the hinge? I've worked the tar outta mine and had no problems...

Oh... it also helps to un-hook your control surfaces from time to time (from the servo horn, or the control horn) and -listen- to your hinges - be they CA-type or pinned hinge type. Cracking, creaking, binding = ALL BAD.

I'm really sorry to hear you lost your US60!! I just got mine completed and flying last week. My other planes are feeling neglected this week - they haven't even been assembled at the field this week - I just keep flying the US60, flight after flight.

I noticed the same problem with the Sullivan Kevlar pull/pull setup on my Sig Extra 300XS a couple of months ago - the kevlar cable was starting to fray at both points where it exits the fuselage, and after only three flights total.

I restrung it (plenty extra included with the Sullivan #521 kit), but before routing it through the fuselage, I used a small round file to smooth and straighten/align the exit holes and then coated the holes with some thinned epoxy. I then soaked that couple of inches of Kevlar cable that travel through the fuse exit holes with thin CA. No more frayed kevlar cable.

i will rebuild my us60,i just have to rebuild the front 14 inches, which should be no problem, there is a club member who has a 60 us and he has a third set of wings coming as two sets have been delivered with some damage, ill get a set from him and repair a couple of ribs and i will be in the air again,it may just have a little different color setup than the way it came, watch that kevlar,arnie..

There is nothing wrong with Kelvlar cable if you make the assumption that wear points need to be protected. Thin teflon tubing (as used for CA) works very well CA itself works also. You can avoid the problem with Kevlar by using nylon covered stainless fishing leader line. With that I had never had any problem and it's cheap like dirt.

Pull - Pull

Gerry you mentioned the fishing leader line as pull/pull material. Have you had any problem with it bothering reception? This past weekend I finished my Edge 540 in which I used the steel line as I have had problems with the Kevlar. I ran the antenna down underneath the plane and thankfully did a radio check. My reception distance was cut in half of what I am used to. Wound up having to run the antenna out the side of the fuse and along the wing, reception now normal
