Wrong engine??
Just wondering if I bought the wrong engine. I just got an Ultra Stick 40 and ordered an O.S. Surpass 70 for it. I was just reading some past threads of the Ultra Stick and it sounds like most folks are using 46 - 61 two strokes for it. Is the Surpass 70 too heavy for this plane?

RE: Wrong engine??
Id say you have choosen a VERY good engine for this airplane.
Typically a 70 size 4 stroke is the the same power-wise as say a 40-46 size 2 stroke. The huge advantage of a 4 stroke is that you are able to turn a larger prop. which makes the engine more efficient. ALso you will be able to run longer on a tank of fuel. Ryan |
RE: Wrong engine??
it'll work but you'll need some tail weight they all do tho

RE: Wrong engine??
Oh man! That's good to know. I figured I would have to add some weight aft. Probably put the battery back there. Any suggestions on a prop size?

RE: Wrong engine??
Great engine choice actually! I would try a 14x4W (wide) and see how that feels--- it is a lot of diameter but should work well-

RE: Wrong engine??
I run a Saito 56 on mine and it was about the limit on being nose heavy. The battery is under the servos and the reciever is next to them.
Horizon talks about putting a Saito 72 in the 40. Your OS 70 should be fine if you move the battery back in the tail. Place it on the fuselage until the plane balances and that's where you put it. I really like the planes characteristics. It's my favorite plane right now. Enjoy, Jim |
RE: Wrong engine??
You might consider installing the elevator and rudder servos in the tail also.
I had the US 60 with a Magnum .91FS and I did this. I miss that plane... When doing an inverted dive, remember that down is up and up is blammo. |
RE: Wrong engine??
I just finished an Ultra Stick 40 with FS 70. Works best for me with 13X6 K4 prop. Had to add 2oz to the tail even after pushing the battery back as far as i could. I think this was due to the fact that I used the Dubro Anti-Vibe mount which pushed the engine out a little further than anticipated. For some reason I like my engines mounted upright, maybe I'm just wierd !!
