Creek Hobby's (same?) Wing...
 

Haven't seen any of their ARF's but from the ads it appears as if they are using same wing on a large variety of planes....anyone know for sure?

Came across your post. Thought I would make a quick reply. All of the wings are indeed different. The Sukhoi and the Edge have one piece wings. The Edge wing is a typical Edge wing, straight leading edge and a tapered trailing edge. The Sukhoi has a thicker airfoil and has fiberglass fillets at the center section. The rest of the planes have 2- piece wings. All of which are different. Different airfoils, and different shapes. All are noticable when looked at closely, even in the ads. I guess I started to wonder about the same thing when I see all 5 planes have 960+ sq in of wing area... then I realize the exact things Jim mentioned: 1 piece vs 2 pieces, center fillet for Sukhoi and Katana, and the LE taper line.

It may seem like having identical wings would mean cost saving. But since they are using foam wings, it wouldn't cost that much more to have the machines cut 5 different foam templates vs just 1 same template. With the technology now you can adjust the wing shape and size on the same station w/ pretty good precision and speed. Just curious Jim, do your foam cutter(s) happen to be computerized?

You are correct. All of the foam cutters in the factory are all computer controlled. You purchased one of these planes, right? How are you making out with it?

Yes, I got the Staudacher from you on ebay. I see there's a "The guy at creek" selling your planes on ebay now, with a reserve price.

My Staudacher is almost ready. I just gotta mount the elevator & throttle servos and hook up throttle cable. I already mounted the rudder servo just behind the wing tube. I am deciding where to mount the elevator servos: at tail or behind wing tube. I have the OS 1.60 FX w/ Bisson muffler up front, and when I put both elevator servos on the tail to check CG, it balances at about 1/4" behind the 30% line at the approximate center of lift chord (by the aileron servo). If I have to mount elevator servos behind the wing tube, the pushrod exits are what concerns me. The ideal elevator pushrod exits are either hindered by the tail servo mount structure, or at a hollow spot that's only covered by the film covering. So I really want to mount the elevator servos at the tail. So would it be acceptable to fly this plane at, say, 33% CG instead of 30%? Have you tried your Staudacher at that balance? Your advice would be appreciated!

Jim I also have one of your planes,Katana,I haven't started it yet,but I am very impressed by the Quality so far,even the owner of the LHS I got it from said the same thing,he couldn't believe the quality for the price,I am using an OS 1.60 with a TurboJett muffler,two HS 225mg servos for the elevator in the tail and a HS 615mg for pull-pull rudder up front,I'll post flight results as soon as I get to fly it.

More importantly I am glad to hear that you are happy with the quality of the Kit and moreso, I hope that you are happy with the level of service that you have recieved so far. I am sorry for the delay, in my opinion, the best thing to do is to balance the plane at the 30% CG to start. We are flying ours with more of an aft CG, but for the first flights, to get acquated with this plane, I would stick with the recommended CG. Most likely, you will end up moving the CG more aft after you get use to the plane, but I am sure that it will be safer, and more relaxing to go with the recommended CG to start. Hope this helps.
