RE: FLAPS PLEASE
WM Superchipmunk 60, flies like a dream if you are into acrobatic planes. Somehow I do not use flaps and have yet to understand what they are for! Hahahaaa ...

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
The World Models .60 size Zero has flaps. Once you learn how to use flaps properly, you will never go back to landing without flaps.

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
Richard ... teach me this FLAPS thing. I have set up my TX mix so that my plane does not balloon when I lower the flaps. Is that correct? That means when the flaps come down the elevator will go down a bit. I do not see my plane flying much slower ... maybe I am phobic about flying any slower. Is my mixing correct? Thanks! Anyways, I can land my plane slow enough without using flaps.

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
tIANci, your WM Superchipmunk 60 can land pretty slow without using flaps. However, any warbirds can benefit from the use of flaps. Some planes will balloon up when the flaps are deployed, like the P-47, P-40, and F6F. Some planes will stay neutral, like the Spitfire, and some will actually pitch down. It depends on the plane. How much flaps are you using, 40 or 45 degrees? Your plane should fly a lot slower without falling out of the sky with the flaps down since flaps add extra lift (and drag). Yes, mix the flaps with the elevator so that the plane stays level with the flaps deployed. On landing, you do a steep approach while using the throttle to control your descent and only use the elevator to flare right before touch down.

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
Richard ... I will try more flaps and see what happens. :) I think I am giving it about 30 degrees or so only.

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
You didnt specify whether you wanted a trainer, sport plane, warbird, etc.
As far as trainers:[link=http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/products/airplanedetails.php?airplaneid=54]World Star-40F[/link] My father just got one of these but hasnt flown it yet. Possibly this weekend. |

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
Thanks guys ,
As far as trainer ,sport,or warbird etc it really doesnt matter just as long as the plane is almost foced to use the flaps when landing. The superchipmunk search only give me RC forum sites. [&o] The world star sites are in a different language [:o] But I will have patience and keep looking :) |

RE: FLAPS PLEASE
Richard - thanks I will try it this afternoon when I go flying. I just feel that it will stall on me on such low speed! I guess I need to have FAITH!
RC Fiend - the Superchipmunk flies really great, I have flown over 20 types of planes and this is one of the best I have had (40-60 sized). Its acrobatic and flies in a very stable manner. She is a dream to fly. |
