Pilatus PC 9

hello all,
I live in the U.K and am wanting to build a Pilatus PC9. Both the Seagull and VMAR are available over here. I have read with interest a long thread on the pros and cons of each make. Some of the threads were several years old. In general has the quality of the VMAR caught up with the Seagull yet? In an ideal world i would like to go for the bigger 81" span VMAR (what motor do you suggest?). Can any one tell me if this kit can be fitted with retracts. Are there any other kit manufacturers out there that produce a kit of the PC9 or Tucano?
Thanks for all your help. Stephen. Yorkshire, England.

Of the 2 the Vmar is the most scale (IMHO), but the build quality is not as good as the seagull models (yet). Vmar seem to have been listening to the consumer, or are a secret member on this forum :D, because the ARf's are getting better little by little. Neither of them can be fitted with retracts without major rework and they both seem to be a little heavy stock so the extra weight may not be worth it.

Have a look at the other threads on the Seagull PC9, as far as I know the big VMar PC9 is retract ready, certainly in the review in one of the American mags it said it was, I am installing retracts in a Seagull PC9 detailed on "Retractable undercarridge installation in a RTF" on RCU which may interest you.

Hi all, I ma new to this forum so forgive me if im in the wrong place or what ever. Im really intrested in buying the seagull Pilatus PC9. Think it looks awsome. How ever, i would like to know if you can take the wings off for transportation as my little car wouldnt be able to accomadate a complete aircraft with wings on at that size. So if anyone could let me know that would be brilliant.

Thanks
Scott

I had the Seagull PC-9 with a Magnum 52 and it was loads of fun. Only drawback was not having retracts but you don't miss them once you fly it a bit

good luck

I have two of the Seagull PC9 aircraft, my son flys one as well. We started out with Magnum 52 FS motors in them, they flew ok but were a bit sloppy in the air. Moved up to Thunder Tiger 54 FS which were a little better. After doing some damage to the front wheel and replacing it managed to fit a Saito 72 FS in the nose. Now it is a very different plane. Flys with authority, can do anything and sounds great in the sky.

Have seen them fly with 2 stroke engines and they also go very well. They are a good plane and you will enjoy flying it whatever engine you choose to install. Heard a story that CM Pro are bring out a 120 size PC9 with retracts. Haven't seen one yet but if they are out there the bigger bird should be very good
