What for a 2nd plane?
What would be a good second plane? I have mastered my 40 size trainer and want to move to something more aerobatic. I think I would like to stick with the tricycle landing gear, I am not sure though. Also, probably a 60 size plane. What are some of my options? I have been looking at the GOLDBERG TIGER 60 intermediate or maybe the SKYLARK 56 MARK II. What do you guys think? And I can convert it to a tail dragger also. Any other good options?

The Tiger 60 was my second plane and I highly recomended. After my trainer I went to the Tiger and I learned allot from this plane.
You can't go wrong with the Tiger 60, after the Tiger I moved to a H-9 stick. anyways good luck on whatever you pick |

evfast, what engine did you run in it. I was thinking an OS 65 LA or a 61 FX if i can get the $$ to get it.

I had an OS 61FX witch powers it very good.

I would get a GP Cessna 182 and put a hot .46 or .50 2-stroke on it. The Cessna looks so good and behaves very well. You have to increase the throws up from the manual guidelines to wake it up though.

Stick, any Stick. Big Stick, Little Stick, Tiger Stick, Ultra Stick just any Stick. 40 Size or 60 Size.
Make it a taildrager if you like, no problem. They teach you how to do anything you want. Fly fast, slow, 3D, aerobatic, scale and if you don't want any of those, it will bore holes in the sky better than any other bird. Stick should be everyones 2nd plane. Best part, you don't have to buy anything else except the plane, you have everything else. |

Thanks Graham I've seen a number of flyers at our local club move happily into Big Sticks from their trainers. Take a look at the Great Planes 60 size Stick. Also, Hangar 9 has the Ultra Sticks which can be built with either flaps and ailerons, or just ailerons. I believe they also offer the option of tricycle or tail-dragger configurations. If so, one of those might give you good opportunities to grow without having to invest in a new airplane along the way. BobbyG |

I went from a trainer to a sig 4 star last year and the experience of building the kit version was huge but I must admit after flying the Twist most of this past summer I think this plane would actually be better for a second plane. Put a .46 size with a 12.25 x 3.75 prop and dual rates and this plane is a outstanding. Best of all it's under 100 bucks.

Thanks for all of the info. I can see that I am just going to have to take the plunge and just get something that will meet my needs and budget. I think that I am going to go with the Goldberg Tiger 2 with and OS 61. I think that will be able to take me to the next step of flying for now.

Killer G, If you are going with the Tiger2 you should use the OS 46FX that will be plenty of power. But if you gonna go for the Tiger 60 than use the OS 61FX.
If you go with the Tiger 2 and the OS 46 mount the engine as far foward as you can I've built 3 of them the last month for felow club members. just my opinion later |
