u-can-do .60 opinions
 

I was thinking about getting the u-can-do .60 airplane for a first aerobatic plane. Anybody out there have any opinions on it. also, what would be a better engine for it, 2-stroke or 4-stroke .91??

I have the 60 version of this airplane and love it. I have an OS 91 four stoke on mine. Some guys are putting the YS 120 on the nose with good results. This is a fine airplane for slow aerobatic flight. Very forgiving airplane that lands on a puff of air. I really enjoy mine for those days when I just want to throw an airplane around. it will make you look better than you are. It will also help you to become a better pilot. I always practice new things on this airplane and then get mu bigger planes out after I feel comfortable with the U-Can-Do. The airframe has held up very well with over 100 flights to date. I have lost count of how many flights I have on mine.

:)This plane is a "Great Plane" pardon my pun. It's a really fun airplane and an excellent value. You can do almost anything with it and it's easy to fly. It begs to have a Saito 100 4 stroke engine. Anything else is either too heavy or not enough power. Build it as light as you can and run a 16x4W prop. I run mine on 30%. It has plenty of power. Mine weighs 7 lbs 4 1/2 oz. I didn't do anything special, just built like the manual. Use good servo with plenty of torque to avoid flutter and of course, keep the speed down. I use HiTec digital HS5645 in tail and HS-645 in the wings. I used a mini servo for the throttle. I use a Hobbico 1650 NiMH battery. It's a great combo and keeps the weight down. I don't own a plane that's more fun to fly.

I too have a UCD 60 with Saito 100 and a 16x4 APC prop. This is my first 60 size plan and it seems easier to fly simply because it is larger and more visible.

This past weekend I had a dead stick at the worst possible time and landed it nicely in some weeds, so I thought. The weeds must of wrapped around the landing gear because it ripped it out. It appears there is not much strength to the landing gear but I suppose as long as you land it on asphault or short grass it is fine. The repair only took me about 15 minutes so not too bad considering. My saito 100 is new so still having trouble getting it tuned perfectly. I thought I had it just right until it decided to die on me when going vertical.

I have one with an OS 91 FX it is a pretty good combo. I like the plane for flying around and hovering. The plane has a lot of rudder to everything coupling. wich is hard to mix out. The plane also does not like to do harriers. It gets real wing rocky.


Either an OS .91 FX or a Saito 100 would be a good match.
I still like the plane and think it will be a great first aerobatic plane. It is very gentle and light on the wings.

where's a good place to up saito engines?? i know tower doesn't carry them (for whatever reason) and i'd rather not give any business to horizon (eventhough they supply many of the LHS's!!).

the problem goes back to a "proboat" brand boat that it purchased. They just put cheap hardware on the boat that wouldn't even work properly. When parts broke (after 5 min. of running the thing), they would replace them with the same cheap parts that broke again. I have also had a number of other minor problems with their own products (dynamite). I've had it with their stuff and just don't want to waste my money anymore. But, mainly i don't want to buy anymore of their own manufactured products znd give them as little business as possible, other than supporting my LHS.
