Pheonix Strega
 

Has anyone had any experience with the Pheonix Strega? Got mine today from tower, will be putting an OS .46ax on it. I assembled a Pheonix Sonic awhile back and found it to be an easy ARF and had some nice extras, like control surfaces already hinged, pinned, and secure. How does this plane fly? What prop? Just figured I'd ask the guy's who know?

feel like i'm talking to myself, took the strega out of the box today to check it out. beautiful model. covering nice and tight, no wrinkles, fiberglass cowl has no blemishes,looks like it's been waxed. all control surfaces are hinged and pinned, will double check to make sure pins are secure. would still like to hear from anyone who has assembled one of these, and would like to hear from someone who has flown this plane. thanks

I did a review on this plane as well over at another RC Group (blatant hint there). It's an easy assembly and a very nice flyer. The 46AX will have no problems. I used an OS 46 FX on mine and a Master Airscrew 10-6. A 10-7, 11-6 or 11-7 should do the job as well depending on what your engine likes.

The plane flies like a dream. Everyone who has flown it says the same thing, that it's fast but, it's also comfortable.

The page of the printed review in the above post agrees with my findings.

Our club races these things with Irvine .53's in them.... Man do they go... Fly good and are holding together with no problem... A .46 should be a peice of cake in one of these... Only problem if any is landing them... They come in a little on the fast side or else they bounce..... Nothing serious, just take getting used to...

thanks guy's,appreciate your help. I can breath a little easier now. this is my 3rd low wing plane, but my first tail dragger. how would landing the Strega compare to tower's Kaos, outside of the obvious, tail dragger vs tri-gear, would the landing speed be about the same? I'm comfortable with the Kaos. I fly off of grass, and have seen other tail draggers have no problem with take off or landing and I hope the same for the Strega. Got a little start on it this am will probably finish tomorrow. Really cold here in Illinois, so won't be able to maiden her for awhile. at least i'll have something to drool over this winter. The only issue this one will have versus Kaos is slowing it down. Mine flies fine slow-ish, it just takes some time to slow it down to landing speed.

The taildragger part isn't an issue if you're used to steering the plane on the ground during take off. Most taildraggers want to turn left, my Strega is no exception, due to torque. It's not super duper squirrelly on the ground but, it's not one you want to just go wide open throttle with from a standing start. Ease into the throttle and steer it 'till the tail flys and it won't be a problem. I take mine off at 1/2 throttle all the time then gag it when it's in the air.

finished up the Strega today, what a pretty plane. maybe i'm just partial. everything went together great. both stabs were straight and required no shimming, all control surfaces were hinged and pinned, (pins were secure) and the covering was excellent. have'nt balanced it yet, but just from guessing , i'd say it's gonna come in a little nose heavy. all in all i'd have to say the phoenix puts out one heck of an ARF. can't wait to put her in the air. thanks for all your help and input.

I am looking for some help on the Strega by Pheonix Models. I need advice on how to attach the landing gear. The instructions aren't very clear on that part.
