Cmpro Christen Eagle
Hi Guys, Looking for feedback on Cmpro ARF's, particularly their Christen Eagle. How well does the kit go together and how does it fly? Any help much appreciated.
|
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
I have one still in the box I got off ebay cheap, the construction seem acceptable. I have no idea how the fly and have not found much on the forums about it. I you do a search you might find something but information on the Christen Eagle was scarce last time I looked, and that plane seems to me to have fallen out of favor with the introduction of the Christen Eagles from GP and SkyShark. Maybe someone else can be more help.
Also Welcome to RCU. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Thanks Seadog for the feedback and the Welcome. Have rang around and most say Cmpro are acceptable models but definately not above average. Like the GP Eagle but a little too expensive here in Aus.

Here you can find a video with Christen from http://wimarex.com.pl :
http://wimarex.com.pl/samoloty/cmpro...e/christen.htm (camera on the top of web) It looks very nice :) |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Thanks Pasazerka, It took a while to download as we only have dial - up connection here but it was worth it, very nice clip. The Eagle looks to fly very well and is easy to see in the air. Just would like to know the build quality of the kit. Not real keen on the landing field though, rougher than ours.;)
Dont be such a tight (Ar****) buy the GP Eagle, dig up some of that money you've got buried. HA HA HA BIGGER is BETTER |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Hi, Loussy-puss,
Yeh dig it up before it goes mouldy or trade in that dog or your Cap 232 just to get a quality GP CHRISTEN EAGLE your seen the quality of PITT-MANS and it would be great to see the EAGLE other than those common red and white things at the next fun fly, there would be some envious pilots about. (There no subsitute for quality.):);)[:-][:-]good idea! All the best SEE YA |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Hi Craig.T, Sell the planes before the dog, she's my shadow. I do like the GP Eagle but it is a bit more expensive, especially as it needs a much bigger donk up front. I was saying to PITT-MAN that with my flying experience (or lack of it I should say) They might be a handful for me, getting ahead of myself so to speak. Thought about starting off with a Sportsman Aviation Waco 60. Cheaper to buy and cheaper if I deck it.[&o]
Sorry I missed you at the field the other week, was certainly looking forward to you helping me set up the CAP. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
loupus - I bought this plane in HK and sold it in Taiwan for a Hurricane. Not that I didn't like it but just that the covering was NOT what the pictures look like. In the link that Pasazerka posted, the only pictures that looks like the real thing are the first and the picture of the kit itself. I haven't seen the video but if the wings don't have the shadows, then it's not the real kit.
The overall quality of the kit is decent. It looks like it will build easily for an experienced builder and build to be strong. The covering and construction were both decent. Because I sold it NIB, I don't know how easily it comes together but each of the components seem of good quality. I bought it because I've always wanted a CEII... but the covering isn't what I expected (I think the wings without shadows looks much better) so I sold it. If you like the way it looks, you will enjoy it. It's really impressive and the cowl is like a hat it's so big!!! my 2 cents. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
I forgot to mention that another reason (main as well) was that I drive a mini cooper and I didn't want to have to assemble a bipe at the field!!! I want bipe that can fit in the car... now I wish I had gone for that SUV!
|
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Thanks for that Fourstroke, Decisions decisions. That's the other problem I have with a Bipe, they take so long to set up. My mate (PITT-MAN) has a GP's Pitts and it takes a while to fiddle around getting it together at the field. But it is worth it when it is together, flies very nicely and honestly I have seen guys take longer farting around with 40 size low wing planes.
Boy I think most planes would be a bit of a squeeze in a Mini Cooper. I can just see it now, driving down the road with the Tail sticking out one window and the Nose poking out the other.:D |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Loupus - I wish that could be the case!!! But the only two windows that are open are driver and passenger windows!!! So unless I'm driving with my plane in my lap... no dice!
I really want to get a trailer but it's not easy to fit one on a Cooper S and Taiwan in general isn't trailer friendly. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
My CMP Eagle says it has a 1550mm { 61 in } wing span, will that fit into a Mini Cooper
? If you can get it in that car I would like to see a photo of it packed in there. I don't see that many Mini Coopers here in Texas, they haven't caught on in the land of Trucks and SUVs. On a Tech note, what do you guys think would be a good engine for the CMP Eagle ? It's rated at 120, but it's a fat plane with a lot of wind resistance. I was thinking about something in the 150 + class. |

Although it might be "fat" it's built light. I don't think it's meant to be a fast plane... so I would go with a 120. But then again, I was the one that originally had purchased a DZ140 for that plane.... Honestly, I wouldn't have used it. I think that plane would be beautiful with a nice 120 fourstroke but not 3D. The plane is surprisingly light.
Forgot to comment on the Cooper - The plane will fit... but it wouldn't fit in one piece. Even broken down, I'd have to use the entire car to fit the plane. 61 wings would go above the fully forward passenger seat!!! THAT is why I eventually sold it... :-( This (below) does not a good plane transport make! |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Forestroke, thanks for the input, the CMP Eagle should come in from 5400g to 5600g according to the box, that's just under 12.4 Pounds. IME manufactures are " optimistic " about finished wight. What do you guys about a YS 110 ? I don't want to hover the thing, but I don't want it falling out of a loop either. Also that would be a site to see that plane in your car pulling up to the field, you would get the nod as the most " devoted " person there. [:-] |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Well... 12 lbs is not that light... It certainly didn't feel that heavy next to the CMP Yak54, which I kept. But if you're not planning to do any 3D, then a 120 should still be good. The YS 110 will be definitely enough to give the CEII a good vertical. If you're looking at the GSP webpage, it's not correct. The CEII has a built up wood fuse not fiberglass. There use to be a 63" CEII, maybe that's what they are referring to. In any case, 110 is definitely good to go... keep me posted and please please take pictures!!!

RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
The info I have is what is printed on the box, I got the plane a year ago { pre GP /Skyshark } and have not messed with it yet.

RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Hi Loupus,
I think what you said is good thinking, you should fly the pants of that cap and realy get to know it and the more you do the more you will enjoy the hobby. I really only just got to know my edge and turned around and sold it to fund the next project. After all a 120-140 4 stroke model is very hard to beat as far as bang for your buck. SEE YA :) |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
HI Loupus
Back again like Lindsay said to PITT-MAN you both or who ever should come over one week end and wee will help with your set up and trimming SEE YA ;) |

Hi Fourstroke, Thanks for the pic of your Cooper, it looks very nice. No wonder you said you could not fit the Eagle in it.:D I figured out how to add a pic, did not see the upload bit at the bottom before. Have attached a pic of our vehicle that I use to cart my planes around, also use it for transporting our dogs too. Plenty of room for the Planes and the Dogs but definately not both at once, Ha Ha.[img][/img]

RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
Hi Craig T. Thanks for that sound advice, Pitt - Man mentioned that we were invited over for a weekend of tuition, very nice of you guys and as soon as the weather cools off a bit we will be over.
I really want to fly the Cap a lot but also my Pheonix Diablo ( Like Pitt - Man's) and try and learn everything on it and then do it with the Cap when I'm more confident of doing the Manouver right. He gave me a copy of the stuff you sent him, very good reading indeed. Hope the wind holds off a bit for tomorrow so I can get my Cap set up better, added the extra nose weight like you suggested, will let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
loupus - that is the R/C equivalent of an aircraft carrier. :-) I think if you put a flat top on that, you could land electrics on it. Of course, you'd have to ask your wive to turn into the wind all the time :-) Makes me JEALOUS!!!

Hi loupus I think you will be dissapointed with the cm/pro eagle, the GP eagle is a wonderful price now and to have one of each in our club would be outstanding.
The great guys from Parkes, it's a wonderful invitation can't wait to go over with you. How could you pass up a GP model I will help you with it, but not with scary hairy in the shed. |

Hi PITT - MAN, love the pics of your plane and I know it flies every bit as good as it looks.
Thanks for the offer but I think I will pass on the Eagles for a while, don't really like the Cmpro one and I can get a few other planes that I really like for the price of the GP Eagle and motor. I need to stick to planes that I can fly or at least mostly fly myself,:D Not only that I am running out of good spots in the house for big planes, just don't have anymore TV cabinets handy.;) Whats wrong with poor Scary Hairy??? he is easy to look after, gets all his own meals and is quite content to sit and watch me work on my planes all night. |
RE: Cmpro Christen Eagle
loupus, is that seriously where you store your plane?
