Worst part of assembling an ARF is....

What portion of the 'assembly' (in ARF's only) do you dislike the most? I find cutting out the cowl to be especially painful - and I use a Dremel! Pity those who have to cut out the openings.....

Complete agreement, I too find the cowl to be the worst part.

I dislike reinforcing weak areas and fixing the manufacturer's mistakes. Cutting out the cowl is kinda fun.

Setting up retracts with the retract servo. Takes me forever and a day.

World Models took all the work and guessing out of cutting cowls with their "3-D" plastic cowl.
In general, the cowl work really shows your attention to detail and your level of skill, after all, it's the only part of the ARF you really heve to do some work on. I hate to see a cowl on a plane that fits poorly, cut poorly and has jagged edges in the cutouts.

The part I dislike the most is setting up mechanical retracts. The best retracts I've had to set up were on a World 60 size Spitfire, they worked and looked great.

OH YA... painting canopy frames sucks too.

I hate glueing the wings togethor. I don't mind cutting the cowl, even on the non-WM planes. Only plane I ever really had a hard time balancing was the stick I have, it was truely a pain in the ______.

gluing the tails on and wing halves together

I LOVE everything about assembling ARFs. After years of cutting out wing ribs and fuselage formers from plans and building ratty kits, cutting hinge slots with an Exacto knife, using uncounted bottles of CA and epoxyand countless hours of covering, ARFs are like a great dessert after a bad meal!!!! Man, do I LOVE ARFs!!!!

My issue has got to be wheel pants. No matter what/how the instructions say to install them, you almost always have to go back and redo them with your own tried and true methods.

Painting in the canopy lines and mounting the canopy is the worst part for me. ...and like Jmurdoch, I don't like the wheelpants installation either.

It would have to be the fin and stab for me...Its the most blood , sweat and tears time of putting one together.

Since the field I fly off is grass and I fly mostly smaller planes, I don't even bother with the wheel pants. I completely forgot about them when I said the cowl was the part I least like. :)

the part i hate would be having to wait for things, eg. like the hobby store to re-open so i can get parts needed.
painting canopys i find to be fun, i like to put the masking tape on.

Everything!;)
I get to anxious to go fly it. I am sure glad there is ARF's because I would go nuts building kits.

CONTROL HORNS!

The biggest pain for me is getting the holes to line up on control surface horns and plates and second is cutting the cowl. ARFs do not have a monopoly on problems...I have the same problems with kits.

RE: Worst part of assembling an ARF is....

Hah. I thoght I was the only one who had problems with control horns. I usually wind up with the holes just right, then I CA them and they don't line up anymore. Really bad since I favor the World Models style of horns with the three holes. One thing that makes it easier is I've started using 2-56 socket head screws to hold them in, no more slip of the screwdriver and hole in the surface blues.

Second to that, I guess it's putting the stickers on.
