H9 Edge Setup Questions

I know that several similar posts have been made on this subject, however they are quite widespread and rather huge threads. So I thought I'd get a fresh start.

I ordered a H9 Edge in this last production run (late September) and plan on using an OS 1.60 with a slimline muff. I am curious on how this model balances in this configuration with either two servos in the tail for elevator operation. Or, if it is preferable to use the MKD Dual Elevator bellcrank and only one high performance/hi tork digital for elevator operation. Just trying to keep weights down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How does the weight of the 1.60 compare to a Moki 1.8? Mine used the Moki w/ bisson muffler and required battery pack installed 1/2 between the wing and stab (and servos were in the tail)....

moki 1.8 is 12 ounces heavier than the os 1.6

I have a saito 180 in mine about the same weight as the os 160. I have my servos under the wing and my battery is right behind the firewall. No added weight but I did have to put the battery that far forward for balance. I would think if you put the servos in the tail you would either have to add weight or go with a heavier engine. Make sure to set the tail at 0 degree incidence with the wing. Mine was off and took some effort to fix before gluing but well worth it. Its a great plane. Although it casn be hard to see in the air some days. But that is only when its more than about 15 feet off the deck! Happy flying

I just finished my 540, OS 1.6 with slimline pitts muffler, 2 hitec 224 metal gear mini servos in the tail, battery pack on top of fuel tank as depicted, moose carbon fiber landing gear, and lite wheels, weighs 11lbs 9oz, and balances at 5" CG slightly, oh slightly tail heavy, hope this helps

mine has an os 160 and i am running 2 605s to the elevaters with carbon fiber and a belcrank pull pull setup to relieve any pull on the 525 on the rudder.all servos are pretty much in the standard place and the 5 cell pack is is about 2 inches behind the trailing edge of the wing to ballance at 5".standard landing gear with aluminum spinner. My horizontal stab neaded to be shimmed 1/8 inthe front to match the wing incidence.Nice flying plane but needs almost full rudder to knife edge.If i assemble another i'll use a big moki.

you should be putting much better servos than just 605's and a 525

The Hitech 605 BB servos are more than adequate for the H9 Edge 540 or any other 1/4 size aerobat. They are used extensively at our field without failure. These servos are fine for the sport flier. I do prefer a more powerful servo on the rudder though.

Mine has 605's all the way around and flies great. It does an awsome blender as well as great pop ups. Of course digital servos would prolly be better, but they should be, just look at the price difference. I did use one servo for each elevator half. Happy Flying guys!

The 605 servos are plenty strong enough for this plane but they just don't center very well. If you are blasting it around doing 3D then you won't notice it.

605 hitec servos are alright but i dont think I would put them on my edge, i have some 605's on my sig se though, but its a MUCH smaller plane

I used the 605's and a 615 on my stinger /G-38.
On my H9 edge I have all Hitec 5645' digital's and on My Carden 30% Extra I have the Hitec 5945's.

We heated and bent a piece of 5/32" music wire and made an elevator joiner wire. One servo (JR8411) on the elevator, mounted in back. Worked flawlessly.

im going to use hitec 5645's for ailerons and 5945's for elevator and rudder

i might just go all 5645s though depending on budget

My problem is i keep getting more planes when i should be spending that money on better servos, but the 605s have been holding up well for me.It is correct that they don,t center perfect but i fly mostly 3d so i don't notice it as much but when i am playing pattern pilot i do notice it.

See I'm going to fly both freestyle for fun and basic and sportman IMAC, so I want to get some precision/accurate/strong servos.

I have hitec 605's and there good, but for this big a plane I dont want to half ***** it.
