Ultra Stick 60 question
Hi All. Up to two or three years ago I had been flying all types of RC airplanes and helis for 15 years. For various reasons I stopped and recently decided to "step" back into it. Anyway, I have a Ultra Stick 60 from back then that I never put an engine on. I want to be able to hover with the plane and was wondering what would be a good choice of engine so aerobatics are only limited by my rusty fingers.
Looking for opinions, 2 stroke, 4 stroke whatever. I know many of combinations have been used so hopefully will get a good feedback. Thanks Z |

Thanks for reply.
I was actually looking at the OS91. Is a 14" prop about the max dia. without getting into ground clearance problems? |
RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
Hi Zman39
I have the ultra stick 60 with a two stroke OS61FX. I use a 11/6 APC propeller. This airplane is my favorite!! With this combination the airplane has very good vertical and can be hovered. I had to add 3oz of lead to the tail for it to balance at the recommanded location. My radio it not capable of using the crow mode but I do have the wing flaps. You can land very slow and the airplane in my opinion is easier to land using the wing flaps. |
RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
I use a 15x4W on my OS 91 FS. No problem with ground clearance.

RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
:)Welcome back! I hope you have a great time. I have a Ultra Stick 60 with a Saito 100. It is a great set up. Power will not be the limiting factor. I use a 15x6 prop. It will go vertical forever. It will take off in about 4 feet. I really like this plane. I would suggest the Saito 100. It's great in this plane and has a lot of options for future planes if you desire. Nice combanation.
Thanks, Barry |
RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
I agree with the other guys' suggestions but I used a Magnum .91FS on mine. Flew fantastically!

RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
My Ultra Stick 60 has a Saito 82 with a APC 14x4w prop which gives it great vertical and no weight in the tail needed to balance.

I am flying mine with an OS61fx, quad flaps, and have it programmed for crow. I like the plane so much that it is my 3rd one. I would recommend doing a search on RCU and reading threads about some of the modifications. I added a sullivan tailwheel to mine, and reinforced the wing dowels, and the rear wing mounting plate. For the wing dowels, I bought solid oak doweling and replaced the ones that came with the ARF. I also added a fuel dot for easy fueling access, and reinforced the landing gear block. Now that I think about it, I do this with pretty much every ARF I assemble. I like this design so much, I also have the Ultra Stick Lite in my fleet.

RE: Ultra Stick 60 question
I flew my ultra stick 60 with an OS 91 FS and it flew very nicely. I wanted more power so I put a super tigre 91 2 stroke on it and wow what a blast. It had unlimited vertical and would do anything I was capable of. I liked the plane so much that I got a bigger one the Ultra stick lite 120 and am in the process of building it and putting a 3W-24 gasser on it. I should have it done this week.
