Thats too bad... RCM had a good review of one of their planes.... and I was thinking that the could really make a lot of guys happy with good detailed ARFs...... :( Maybe not ? Maybe not enough people have bought them to say whether good or bad.... ?

That gets me to thinking, What was the last time you read a really BAD kit or ARF review in one of the major RC magazines? I wouldn't think too many would bite the hand that feeds them. :eek:

Why does everybody get so uptight if we BASH a bad company? Is this not a great medium to discuss in great detail the failure of a commercial company to provide adequate quality assurance in their products? I for one appreciate all the gory details of shoddy workmanship, inferior wood and hardware, crappy covering, etc., etc. I only wish these comments had been around before I plunked down $300 for one of these ripoffs!!!!! I guess I could have returned it, but I started construction with high hopes and a blind eye.

The only reason I posted that was because this topic is getting exhausted now. There is plenty of info regarding their products on here already so starting another thread containing the same thing is not necesarry. People have the right to know what they are buying and the quality of the products.

I have posted about vmar myself and believe me it wasn't too nice. Stay away from the older chipmunk arf.. My GOD!! The hobby shop had one awhile back so I opened the box to check it out and WOW!!!! What a mess! LOL the instructions were a mess, there was alot of sawdust in the box and when I grabbed the rudder I applied a little pressure on it (no more than a high speed knife edge would apply)and the rudder hinges pulled right out.

i`ve a Stick.60 from VMar and i`m very happy with this plane.The Kit was really complet and have good Power with a 10ccm Engine and a 13x6 Prop

Hideho all,

I am in the process of reviewing the RV-4 for RCU online magazine and VMAR has come light years ahead of where they once were.

Yes, their are a few issues being delt with, but nothing compared to the VMAR of days past.


And here's a heads up, the new ECS polycoat covering looks terrific, too.

More to follow in my review comming shortly.

You got that right. When I agreed to do the review, I damm near had to hold my breath till the plane got here and I found out that I did'nt have to send it back because I could'nt be objective.

I got it via www.richmondrc.com and it has the new Polycoat covering. The sales people were great and explained that VMAR did have 'issues' in the past but planes built within the last 1 1/2 years have been 'upgraded'.

My VMAR CAP 232 was awful. Firewall popped out before the first flight, the whole thing creaked from bad glue joints, and the wood and ply quality was the worst I have ever seen. When it finally flew, never had a solid feel. I guess they fly only as good as they are built. Sure they are cheap and some may like them for what they are worth, but I would rather invest a little more and go with decent quality. My advice, "stay away".

I recently bought a Vmar Cap 232 ... Other than not liking the covering ... it seemed by apearance only ... that it was put togeter well ... I was concerned about the cheezy firewall setup ...

After reading the last post however, maybe I should sell it before I bother with it. :(

In response to the details of their NEW models, I got mine about five months ago and I can assure you VMAR IS SUBSTANDARD, no matter how low your standards are!!!

No good way to make a decent patch when cut or punctured either. 'Shelf paper' style coverings come in poor, bad and awful quality, you take your choice. Oh well at least it covers the gaps in wood seams and poor gluing of what they call balsa and (third world) plastics

The worst part is the heat distortion and bubbling. Not to mention their pilots are bug eyed to the max.

i have a vmar cap231 and the arrow. The wood is bad, bad glue, landing gear is bad, wheels are bad, clevises break, ailerons were crooked, the planes are heavy. They fly not bad.

GreginBoston was told that the planes are upgraded in the past 1 1/2 years. The only things they upgrade is the covering.

All interesting comments. I recently purchased a VMAR Hot Rod 40 to "retrain" myself after a couple of minor mishaps (having the wings on an Easy Fly 40 fall apart, and slightly damaging a Star-Duster .40). I figured this was an easy way to do so. The price was right, after all.

Anyway, this plane has beautiful covering (I may have been one who got the not-so-bad wood, etc.) however there were some modifications necessary to fly this bird for my taste. I redid the nose wheel steering since the pushrod they used was extremely rigid and hard on the servo, ALL of the clevises were replaced with snap clevises after I stripped the first screw. They come up a little short with the preinstalled pushrod for the rudder, so you may want to replace that. There were no instructions for the control horns, which were a little different than anything I'm used too.

Overall, though, this is a pretty decent kit. I may purchase another VMAR aircraft in the future, a T-34 or AT-6 Texan II. It's a lot easier for me to get the hours on something that is less than $150 rather than explain to wife how I destroyed a $250 plus aircraft. Yes, I realize you get what you pay for.
