Plane for .61
 

I've searched the threads but came up empty, now I ned your help. I have acquired a NIB TT GP .61 engine in a trade and need to get it off the shelf and into a plane but what would work? I have some scale planes, a CAP, a Chipmunk, a P51 so my interests are varied, I'm just stuck on this one. The engine doesn't have the power for a lot of things and too big for others I have thought of. Any suggestions?

What do you think of the CLoud Dancer 60? Its a light plane for its size so it would have spirited performance with your engine. I built one from plans and the one thing I notice with the double taper wings is that it handles the wind really well! :D

After some shopping, I found the GP PT-19 and the GP Shoestring, would the .61 be enough engine for either of these? The box says they'll take a .61, but how will they fly? I'm not looking for a rocket ship just a fun Sunday flier.

Randy ... the GP is not as powerful as the TT61Pro ... what you want is something the likes of a PT19, Cloud Dancer, 4*, Space Walker. Thats much better for the TT61GP.

Don't worry too much about power with the TT 61 GP -- While it is not a hot high-RPM screamer, it has a lot of torque, is not excessively heavy & can spin a good-sized prop without trouble. It will fly virtually any 60-size model.

If your looking for something that isn't scale but is a smooth pattern type flyer try a Excelleron 50 with a .61 in it. I'm planning on using a OS .61 fsr with a 13x5 (to keep the speed down) in mine. Vertical should be unlimited with this combo.

My favorite plane is the GP Lancair. I have built four now, three for other people. The motors have been the OS 61 FX and Saito 91 so far. There are a lot of myths out there about this plane being hard to fly and tipsy, but it is not. It is actually right behind my Avistar being the easiest plane to fly in my fleet. I have also reinforced the center section of the wing on all of the ones I have built. All of those are still flying, no wing failures, and one has been flying since the plane first came out. The plane is a little more expensive, but worth it to me. They are also very aerobatic and I just love to fly them.

I fly mine with a 61 FX, but between 4200 and 7200 feet in the heat. So, the 61 GP would have no problem and probably be just right.

I am going to build another one in a month or so and put a Magnum 91 FS on it for a cross country competition. I am thinking about adding retracts as well. I'll probably be the first to finish the course, I hope.

Did I mention the plane is just beautiful?
