I messed up big time attaching the quad flaps to my H9 Ultra Stick 40. I inserted the CA hinges and glued them in. Later I realized, however, that one of the flap hinges had not gone into the slot in the flap, but had instead slipped between the flap and the covering, where it is now permanently glued into place. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I was thinking about leaving it where it is, inserting a pin through the hinge and flap and epoxying it in place. Do you think that would be sufficient, or do I have to cut the hinges, remove the flap and cut new hinge slots next to the existing ones?

Why not apply a full length monokote hinge onto the aileron and wing. This will seal the gap making the aileron more effective and the aileron will be secured with both the hinges and the monokote. I am assuming that the covering is compatible with monokote you may need a low heat covering instead.

Cut out the hinge and do it right , it,s not that big a problem and you will be relieved how easy it works out.

i've made similar mistakes. go with gizmos suggestion and do it over. remove some covering around the area and after you fix it, you can make a small patch.

Cut the hinge flush with the trailing edge of the wing and the leading edge of the flap. Make a new slot just next to it and put in a new hinge.

Should work just fine.

I had the same thing happen to me some years ago. I would do like the majority have stated and cut the surface off and re-do it. Only one difference, use another more reliable hinge such as robart hinge points. Two reasons: 1) they do not require as much space on the hinge line, remember you already have ca hinges in-place so any new hinge will need to be placed between the old hinges. 2) they generally have a longer life and since you have to do the work anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. I cut out and replaced the hinge. Good thing, too. The first hinge had only been glued to the covering. The CA had not bonded it to the flap at all.
