World Models Extra 300L 60 size

Anyone have this plane? It looks competitive with versions from Graupner and Great Planes but I can't find any posts about it. I'd like to snag it from my LHS but I'd prefer to hear some comments about it first.
Things I like about it:
* includes a pull pull rudder system
* fiberglass cowl and pants (not plastic!)
* unusual but good trim scheme
* company seems to have a good reputation
* aluminum gear in the scale "arc" design
* aluminum wing rod

For example, the other planes I mention seem to perform better with a .90, so would this plane take a .90 easily?

Also I'm worried that it doesn't appear to have flying wire reinforcement at the tail. the Graupner bird's tail shears off without this reinforcement. I would add this if I get it.

Thanks
Clark

I just picked mine up from LHS. WOW, I expect a lot from WM and this does not let you down. This is built like the new style of light weight arf's, and the quality of everything is great.Double beveled airfoiled tail services, 2 piece wing, landing gear accents. looks like a very fast built, lots is already done for you. The fire wall is drilled both for 45 and inverted mounting and includes small dowels to glue in holes not used. The rear hor. + ver. stabs key together and to the fuse at the LE. The wing locating dowels are already glued in. I'm tempted to try and built this in 2 nights. O, and the best part it was only $219.

Still need to apply all the decals, will worry about that after first fight this evening. I'm really suprized about the lack of chatter about this plane.

Let us know how you get on with the maiden I was thinking about putting my .91 in this plane. Also did you get unlimited vertical?

The plane looks really great! I am gonna be in trouble!!!

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

Conditions for maiden flight were NOT good, very cross windy and one muffler screw stripped out at the field. So what did I do, Just what any self respecting RC addict wound do, I FLEW IT!!!!!!! Placed a little coctail of lock-tight and foam CA on the muffler screw and got ready for the cross wind. Pretty normal first flight very little trim and a couple passes, loops and rolls mixed with some hammer heads. But enough to let me know it stays in the air and I think it will have some real potential. Vertical climb on Pro Zinger 14x6 set very rich was nice, propable close to unlimeted when I properly set top end. Was turning 9500rpm in the ground and should come up to 10 to 11k when set right. 3D performance will have to be tested another day, how about tomorrow morning?????

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

RPM - if you get that 14x6 to about 10,750 RPM it will be a blast to fly on an 8 lbs plane. I wanna see when my LHS is bringing it in. Somewhere next week I was informed.

Didn't see you mention anything about struts/wires back at the tail. Does the kit include any such reinforcements? Be careful pulling g's if you didn't reinforce the tail...

sounds like good one. Please let me know how the 3D performance goes.

The plane did not call for tail wires and I usually do not run them even on me full 3d planes.Look at the detailed pic of the rear stab's the elevator is a built up airfoiled piece and should be stonger then a flat panel design that is more common in this size plane. I've built this plane for scaleaerobatic, seasones with 3d. But I think it looks like it could handle full 3d just fine, If that was my primary goal with it I think I could shave 8-10oz off the weight buy going to carbon landing gear with no pants or accents, carbon wing tube and switching throttle servo from 425bb to 81mg. I'll post more after monday morning flight's. Hopefully a nice clear calm morning so I can a good feal for it's 3D capability.

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

I've been having a serious look at this plane lately and it certainly looks like a winner so far. I think the .91fx w/bisson pitts is a good combo as well and am interested to know how it fits in the cowl. Is there much cutting required?

One important note for us metric speaking folk is that World Models incorrectly lists the weight of the plane as 8.2lbs/4720g when, in fact, 8.2lbs equals 3720g. Thats a 1Kg over statement and could lead potential buyers to think the plane will have a high wing loading.

It's great to hear that the plane with standard hardware and radio gear is only 8lbs (3630g) so it shouldn't be hard to shave off a little more with light weight radio gear and CF undercarriage and wing tube. Incidentally, what is the diameter of the wing tube?

I do not know the exact wing tube dia. Only flew twice because muffler came loose again. But got to wring it out a little before that. flatspins nice, knife edge wonder full(i dont remember any pitch or roll coupling at all) slow role nice, and pop'd into a half hearted wall was ok, nose yawed off a little, but that may have been from the half hearted attempt. vertical pull was nice almost unlimited, but not over powered. And a pic of cowl, on 2 for needles 1 for glow and 2 for Bisson pitts (if I had to get the muffler over I would contact bisson to see if I could get one made with a more rear rake so pipes would exit factory cowl cut out. O'ya did I mention just how sweet the cowl is, check out the factory cut-out louvers.

Thanks. I ordered a blue one today. Did you put a 2 stroke or 4 stroke on it?

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

Just a quick note of caution, double check the factory gluing of all 4 wing dowels. I found 3 of mine loose. I picked up the plane after a flight and felt some thing on the wing T.E. shift, removed wings and found dowels loose. Applied med ca to soak into joint let set for a minute or 2 then hit with some kicker to make sure it all dried and right back in the air. What a great flying plane, and it is a real floater on landings.

Do you guys think an OS .61 with bisson pits muffler would be to small for this plane?
the requierments call for a .60 2 stroke to a .90 4 stroke
Thanks

tIANci 06-19-2005 09:42 AM

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

This plane should have a minimum of something like an OS91FX ... I am sure a Saito 100 or OS 108 will be good stuff! A 60 on a 8 lbs plane is just so so.

BloomAce 06-23-2005 09:47 PM

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

I am going to mount a OS90FX on mine. What size of fuel tank are you guys
using. I am think about putting a 450cc into the plane any comments.
How long can you be in the flying with an 350cc fuel tank and OS90FX engine.

Thanks,

Mike

BloomAce did you use the stock hardware (I am specially concerned with the throttle pushroad)
Thanks

My concerned is metal to metal contanct with the carb arm.
Thanks

I am not to that point yet. I have been slowly working on it.
Maybe some of the other guys like the one that posted the pictures has
some suggestions for us. That would be great to learn before screwing up.

RE: World Models Extra 300L 60 size

Sorry guys its been a will since I check in on this thread, If I remember right I threaded a plastic clevis on the end of the throttle rod at the carb connection. With the stock tank I'm up atleast 10min with OS.91fx with bisson pitts muffler and VP-30 perry pump , was flying Zinger Pro 14x6 but it landed a little fast, went to APC14x4W and like it alot better.
