I am looking for any opinions/set-ups anyone might have. What engine, servos, the whole 9 yards. Anyone using a zdz 40 in there's?:)

I built my edge pretty much per the book. I used the saito 180, 2 servos (hi tech 615 If memory serves me right) for the elevator, but mounted in the middle with the rudder servo. Used a sullivan tailwheel, 23 oz tank (not the one included). I beefed up the front end with triangle stock - at least the places within easy reach.

Flew it for the first time a few weeks ago. Really fun to fly, but that saito was set rich, and after 6 minutes, I was deadstick. (Second flight) Stretching the glide (boy does she glide nicely) almost made the field, it hit in grass that was only slightly rougher thanthe field itself. Not a bad touchdown, full stall from about 6 or 8 inches, and it tore the gear right off.

When I got into it, I could see why. The gear plywood was very poorly done. Poor joints, not a lot of glue, poor quality plywood. I would venture that others have found this as well, and I'd encourage anyone who has not finished their airplanes yet to buy some blue covering, rip off the covering on the gear area and seriously beef up. Do it now, or you will later.

So now it is almost back together, and I'm looking forward to getting back out with it. It flies so straight it is just phenomenal. And with the saito leaned a bit, it will run a bit longer. After breakin, it should be even better. But I can see why many favor gas.

I landing mine in the weeds twice... ripped out the landing gear both times. The plane definitely prefers the runway. :o

Been flying ours w/ Moki 1.8...until a frequency hit put it THROUGH the trees :(

My son flew it most of this summer. Lost radio and down she went - of course the radio worked when we found it! Might have been Frequency hit as he lost all control. The battery still had over 90 minutes of 'life' left in it, so that might eliminate that as the cause.

The plane was totaled - no apparent damage to the engine or radio! Even salvaged the pilot :)

Picked up another one yesterday - should be ready for my son when he comes home for thanksgiving - right now football is in season!

Well, the good thing is that they go together pretty quickly, especially once you've built one.

Have you heard anything about the wings since the supposed fix was implemented? The folks at my site are nervous nellies evertime I bring mine out. They think it's going to go in near a house and they will lose the field!

Excellent! I ordered engine, airframe and radio from chief and found them to be excellent.

It looks like you have a super plan for your ship. The biggest wrok area for me was the horizontal stab saddle. I had to work on that for a few days to get the thing lined up just right. I used one of those angleometer things that attach to the wing - incicence meter- that's what I'm looking for - to try to get everything as close to zero as possible. I think it payed off, as the ship flies very true.

Something else that can cause a radio hit is your switch. If it has a bad connnection, it might shut the radio off and on temporarily.

I've tried the Moki 2.10 (four of them), OS 1.60fx, and Saito 1.80s (five of these) on these 1/4 scales for 3D. The Moki 2.10 had the power, but was too heavy. The OS 1.60fx ran smooth but lacked the power. The Saito 1.80 is my favorite... on 30% Heli. But, the expense is just too high. Also, the mess of glow.

I'm not sure this 1/4 scale stuff is a good size at all. I'll be trying the 80" stuff with a ZDZ-40 or similar in the future instead. They should fly much better, lighter, and cheaper!

Appreciate the testimonial. It was especially heartwarming to hear that yet another fine RCer lost the gear on the Edge, likely doing absolutely nothing to deserve it. I suggested that the factory needs to do some work in this area.

If you note a few posts up, a certain new member was casting aspersions at all of us 'Edge rectratable' owners.

I would also comment that standing on my scale in the bathroom trying to keep the tips and tail out of the toilet water has become a right of passage. Don't knock it unless you've tried it!

To fix the gear, just some some light ply, a little balsa tristocking, and some fiberglass. It wont add enough weight to notice, and the gear will be much stronger. Also go over the seams on the covering with your heat iron to reseal them. I've seen a few seams on this plane start to pull up, but 5 minutes with the heat iron will fix it.

Whenever I find the time to get my lazy butt working on my topcap and finish it I'll start on my edge.

And jack, your 100% right about the covering, its perfect, but I think some of the seams need to be reheated and stuck down more.
