Ball link on carby..
 

Hi guys, i have recently fitted an OS 1.08, and to my suprise it has a ball link set up for the carby. Problem is, the link is very stiff and a servo wont be able to push it properly.. is there any way of getting around this? Or do someone like Du-Bro make a ball link connector (for the pushrod to connect to the carby) that is a better smoother fit? Thanks, james.

Dubro makes a couple of different sizes. You get the ball link ends in a package of two ( ball, socket, threaded rod, set srew and small lock screw) to be CA'd or soldered to your wire end. I have this set up on my 4 star, works very good.

Yeah but will these fit onto the factory OS ball on the carby? I don't mean i want to run a ball link set up, i mean that the engine comes from factory with a ball link on the carb, but the connector for it they give you is too tight and stiff and is highly restrictive, so i need to find something smoother.

doesn't the ball assembly itself come off, threaded with nut opposite side of the ball?

Solved it this morning ;) Went to the LHS and had a look at another OS item, and it was the same, still tight.. and there is no company makes just the ball shank/link they all have the gold swivel ball already in.. so i picked up a Du-Bro 2/56 ball link kit, and pressed out the ball.. it fitted perfect and MUCH MUCH more smoother than the OS item.. Thank god for Du-Bro.

Glad you found a fix but all you needed to do was lightly squeeze the nylon link (while it is on the metal ball) with a pair of needle nose pliers to free it up. I have done this on both my OS 1.08s. This is a trick some heli fliers use to free up ball links.

They do it but its not really a good idea.

They also make a link sizing tool that you put in the link and spin it around a few times to free it up. All you need to do is take a spare ball, scuff it with some pliers and mount it on something to make a handle.

I have a OS 108 and found the proper ball link clevis at the hobby shop. Comes several to a pack and they work smoothly.

Yeh mine seems to be excellent now, nice and smooth movement, yet still has enough firmness to ensure it wont pop off.. i think it was that the OS link is in metric and the Du-Bro is imperial, the slight difference in tolerance between the measurement types was what allowed the better movement. All good now tho!! Now i found tho that the stock muffler on it marginally hits the firewall with the engine side mounted, so now i gotta hunt down a Pitts Muffler and another $100+AUS :S Ah well never ending i guess lol
