Seagull SpaceWalker II
 

Picked up a Seagull Spacewalker II at the LHS on saturday. This is to replace my toasted Twist. Woulda got another Twist but I have a U Can Do too and couldn't see having 2 planes that were sorta of the same type. Plus, the wing from the Twist is still in good shape, only needs about 15 minutes to repair. Saw the Spacewalker and really liked it. Also, the two clubs I belong to, nobody has a Spacewalker. For those of you who have this plane, any bad habits? A TunderTiger Pro .46 is going in it.
Oh....why is that the weatherman says nice, 70 and low winds? Flew my U Can Do today...nice afternoon until I fueled it up and taxi'd out...winds picked up. Got some flights in before it started raining. Winds were gusting up to almost 20 mph....blew the U Can Do around a bit but boy was it fast on the downwind leg!!!

They seem to really pull to the left on take off. I found that adding a little right thrust helped.

Also, skip those tiny wheel pants and put bigger wheels on it (Unless you have a paved runway)

I'm probably gonna skip the wheel pants as I fly off of grass. The grass is mowed quite low though. There are a few guys that fly
1/2A with smaller wheels and they don't have much of a problem from what I've seen. I was looking at the fuse today and the engine
mount is already attached. The engine is sideways mounted so that the exhaust is blown out on the bottom. I will have to look at the
mount/firewall for right thrust. If not enough, I can add a small shim on the one side for more right thrust.

Because of the engine's rotation, you'll need to shim 3 of the 4 bolts - A large shim (1/8" - 3/16" ) on the Left hand bolt and about half that on the other two

The Seagull Spacewalker II is a good looking plane on the ground and in the air. I've since sold mine but here are a few impressions. You need lots of right rudder on takeoff and then slowly release as the plane lifts off. Coordinated turns are recommended. It is quite an ordinary flyer actually except for the way it spins. Pretty cool. Definitely put on larger wheels and skip the wheel pants. The tail wheel wire is soft and you will find yourself bending it back into shape after almost every flight. Replace it with a Sullivan or equivalent. One last thing you might want to consider is programming flaperons (around 30%) for slowing the plane for landings. This made a huge difference on mine. It would just settle down really nice and easy.
