How do you fix the ripples?
Hey all,
I just bought my first ARF trainer. How do you get the ripples out of the covering? Do you iron them out, or steam it out? I just want to make sure it looks as nice as I can get her. Joe |
RE: How do you fix the ripples?
As this is probs your first Model, you wont have a heat gun. However you can use a hair dryer on the high setting. Pass the dryer over the covering slowly, this will re-shrink the covering.

make sure to cover any of the edges with a strip of paper, ruler, anything you can find, so that they dont peel up, if you know what i mean.

Be careful with the heat - some covering films are very heat sensitive and you could burn a hole. Start with the hairdryer far away. A clothes iron will also do the job but start with a low heat setting and be careful!

RE: How do you fix the ripples?
Since the covering is often not attached as well as it could be, and is sometimes wrinkled, consider buying a covering iron, and perhaps a heat gun. The iron is needed for sealing loose covering edges, and can also be used for shrinking the wrinkles. The heat gun is better for shrinking, since it can cover larger areas. However, as has already been mentioned, don't use a heat gun near the edge of any piece of covering or trim, it can turn a straight edge wavy.
One more note, don't fuss too much over your trainer. They usually go through plenty of minor mishaps as you are learning to fly. |
