quick gp 1/4 patty question
 

I seem to missing the wooden washers for the wing bolts that come with the patty. Can I use nylon washers someone at my field told me I should not. If not what should I use and wat size should I use.

dont want to sound dumb but rubert to what side? ( Iam assuming to the fuse) I can get them at home depot?

I typically put the rubber to the wood and have the metal of the washer against the metal of the nut/head of the bolt.
I have heard that this is wrong, but with compression of the rubber, I have never had a screw come out from this.

I threw my wooden washers out and replaced them with the nylon wing washers. Have 34 flights on mine and no problems.

THe bolt is nylon is that ok with ruber back sided washers or should I use just a nylon washer also what size is everyon using.

if you want to use wood washers you can make your own. They can be round or square
your choice. Keep it simple.

I agree with F.Ciccarello. The lite ply washers are simply to distribute the pressure of the nylon bolt head when tightened so they don't suck into the intercostal over time.
Rubber and metal washers are too heavy and overkill for the application IMO. In the big Patty thread I read much discussion on how to make the nylon bolts easier/faster to install but never anything about how often they were falling out.

Then again, what the heck do I know, my DA-50 doesn't arrive until tomorrow! ;)

Rob, I would go ahead and just use the nylon washers. All they are there for is to distribute the load evenly to the wood sides of the fuse as stated before. The nylon wing bolts that you have are the ones that came with the kit and I never had a problem with them. Nylon wing bolts are faily common practice . If you were to use a metal bolt into a metal blind nut you would run the risk of vibration working them loose. My composite arf is the opposite they use a metal stud with a nylon nut. Have you flown her yet? Make sure you do a good range check before you do. I always started my day with a range check with engine off and then another with the engine at idle. Some say it was needless but it gave me peace of mind.

Hey Bryan, I have not taken her up yet but am looking forward to it. One of the guys a our field said I should go with him up to rocky hill for my first flight. This way if I have a problem I have alot of room to land. Unfortenetly that field has been under water so I have not yet had a chance. I am very tempted to take her to the northford field, but I would hate for anything to go wrong. I am planing on starting her up this weekend. If the nylon washers ok I will just go ahead pick them up and use them.

I am in the same situation with my composite arf. Waiting for winding brook to dry out. I just joined winding brook this year. Who is going to help you out up there?
