Control Horns
Hey all,
I'm working on a Linear Edge 540T and I don't want to use the control horns they supply. It's basically a threaded screw. Where can I get good control horn hardware to replace it with. I checked Horizon hobbies but there are no pics and I do not know what I'm looking at. I also want to replace the horns for the pull pull rudder as well. Thanks guys. RickP |
Control Horns
I Just finished the Lanier Edge 520. I used Sullivan paired (R & L) SS horns. I originally was intending on using Rocket City Pull Pull set up, however the point of attachment for the cable to the stud is well behind the hinge pivot point for the control surface. Even using the factory supplied hardware would not provide the proper geometry for control linkage hook up.
The angle and length of the Sullivan horn allowed the connection of control horn to control cable to occur directly over the pivot point of the control surface. The only thing here is the hard point for attaching the horn is too small. It was intended for a stud, not a horn connection. You must cut and add more ply here, or.... I used very long screws to extend through the control surface from the top to the bottom control horn. A small nut and bolt fix. I did saturate the surrounding balsa with thin CA to add strength in place of the small hard point area. |

Control Horns
I just used stainless steel 6-32 screws washers and nuts with Dubro 6-32 connectors 4-40 rods and clevises on mine.

You can get Rocket City stuff froms Don's Hobby Shop.www.donshobbyshop.com That's what I used on my Lanier Edge, and on all my !/4 scale and up planes.I didn't have the Geometry problem spoken about above.Sullivan also offers a similar horn, called the Super Horn,It has a long clevis attachment so you can move the stud futher back.

Rick,
You live in Levittown. Go to Sunrise Hobbies. Matt's got a lot of stuff there. |
