Need help prop balencing
Hi guys I have a dubro prop balencer that I just baufht and am going nuts. I think I just buchered one prop to deth trying to balence it and now I think I need to toss it. This is when the prop is on the balencer and mov it to say 10 to 4 o'clock the 10 0'clock side will start to fall. Ok so that means that is the heavy side and I need to sand a little of the back or add some weight to the light side but if I rotate the prop to say 2 o'clock (mind you I have not done anything to the side that just registered heavy) to 7 o'clock now it is showing that the side that was light is now heavy. So THe prop I buthered is because I have been doing this constently and can't find a balence. should it be this hard? It just seems wrong and I am pissed that I butchered my new prop.
Please, please help Thanks, Rob |
RE: Need help prop balencing
If it acts that way you described, it's close enough.
Don't try to get it perfect, as you have seen, even if you get it "perfect", remove it from the holder, put it back, and it will be off again. Unless you plan on running at extreme speeds, a prop that's close, is plenty close enough. I have been flying for over 40 years and, to date, I have balances 3 props - and the only reason I did THOSE was because I was sitting in my shop bored, and someone gave me a prop balancer for Xmas a few years earlier. |
RE: Need help prop balencing
If you want to balance a prop just add some clear nail polish to the light end. Check it again when it is DRY. Add more if needed or take some off with acetone or nail polish remover. As Minnflyer said.."close is close enough"

RE: Need help prop balencing

RE: Need help prop balencing
This is when the prop is on the balencer and mov it to say 10 to 4 o'clock the 10 0'clock side will start to fall. 1) First, You should balance the prop tips with clear paint 2) After, Balance the hub with glue. Look at the video here with Dubro prop balancer: http://www.downonthedeck.com/videos_instruction.htm Daniel |
RE: Need help prop balencing
Ok Makes now just so I am clear if I balence tips first how do I know they are balenced if the prop hub is still unbalenced? I am thinking this is why could never find the bale before and butchered my prop.
Thanks, Rob |
RE: Need help prop balencing
This is getting all complicated and it's not. Put some nail polish/paint or whatever you want to use on the TIP of the prop on the light side. Get it close and go fly.
