Is the Cermark Pitts that bad?

I'm considering an aerobatic arf. I don't want an Ultimate (because they are so dang common - I know they fly excellent - I had a Goldberg for a long time).

Anyway - the GP Pitts looks great, but I'm not sure I have the funds to get into an appropriate gas engine and such.

Is the Cermark Pitts that bad? I've read all the posts on this forum and that guys web site.

Curious what the verdict was on this plane - anyone still flying there's?

Can anyone think of another aerobatic bipe arf? YS91 or YS120 sized ship?

Thanks,

Jeff

Pitts

I had great luck with the Cermark Pitts until I dumbed into the ground. Its a good AC and an even greater bargain now.

I am still flying mine. I enjoy the aircraft very much. Very stable, friendly, and tons of fun. I have flown mine with an OS 120 and a Saito 150. It flys wonderful scale aerobitics.

If you go with a large motor such as a 150 make sure you beef up the engine mount. I would do this with any engine.

As far as I know Cermark has sold out of them. I am not sure if they are going to produce anymore?

Hideho,

As stated, nice plane.

Be aware that Cermarks customer service is pretty poor, however.

Good luck,

One more vote for Cermark customer service.

The worst.

I actually have only one name in mind for the lady in charge of that department. (Rude :D )

She is a detriment to the company

I've heard the horror stories on their service.

Thanks guys for the opinions.

I have a YS91 NIB but if that isn't enough power I'd pick up a YS120 or YS140 from somewhere.

Maybe the CG Ultimate

The Goldberg Ultimate has always been a really good flying plane, and is about the right size for your YS 91.

Since Lanier took over CG they may have them back in production.

Cermark Pitts

I had one with a G23 installed, not inspiring performance but it comes out a little heavy with that engine. Unfortunately lost it due to aileron flutter exiting a split s, lost control and ended up dumping it in to avoid the flight line. If it is still priced at $400 as it was when I bought one, the Great Planes Pitts is a better buy. Attractive looking airframe and superior quality.

By "that guys web site" do you mean RC Flight Unlimited?? If not, check out the review I wrote for him at http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/Kit...ermarkS2B.html

Bottom line is: stay away from this ARF unless you are prepared to perform EXTENSIVE modifications and improvements. That being said, once properly set up, it IS a great flying and good looking plane. The design was well done by Dave Patrick, but the execution by Cermark was a disaster IMO.

The Great Planes Is not a better plane than the cermark, cermark flys better with a 120FZ, plenty of power, cermark looks better, mor scale for a pitts, but do add some tri-stock around the firewall, full throttle blenders may cause it to come loose, My friend has had his ever since they came out, just a month or two ago he had a down side pull-pull cable break, planes still flying today, not hurt. He also has a GP pitts, the wing brackets have broke in half, top left alieron broke off, etc not due to his building, this plane is also still flying unhurt with a BME50, ps. don't let anyone tell you the flying wires don't work! THEY DO. This was not wild flying either, all done within the first 20 flights.
