A wealth of knowledger exists in these forums and I need to get back to my "roots"
I fell in love with a Hobbico Starfire 40 ARF for the simple reason that there was no complicated set up, no retracts or airpumps, just glow fuel and radio. touch n go all day and just fly it like the day was all mine.
Is there a way to gewt my hands on one of these gems OR even better to find an equivelent that is in the 4-5 channel range that I can just enjoy for its simplicity and fun.
Just want to get back to my roots and re- discover why I fell in love with this hobby.

Not sure if you want a tail dragger or trike but a few planes come to mind. Super sportster is a tail dragger. Goldberg Tiger 2 is set up to use either trike or as a tail dragger. World Models have 2 that would work well for what you want. Super Sports 40 or for a military look that flys similiar the T34. Look good?!?[8D]

I think you'll be pleased to know that you can probably still get them today. If you can't find them in the states, I might be able to source one locally for you here in Taiwan. I've seen them before.

As for subsitutes. As fastsky said, WM Supersports 40 is an excellent plane. Kyosho has the Calmato low-wing trainer, which I think is about the most beautiful low wing trainer today. My friends fly two, one with a YS53 and the other with a deisel engine. Both have raving review for the kits. The person with the YS53 on his is very experienced with pattern ships and twins in his hanger often comes with only this plane to the field. He says that it is the easiest building ARF he's ever put together and everything was spot on accurate (he measured all critical areas) and it flies just as well.

I love WM models but this Kyosho's got this class of plane sewn up!

The only plane that is easy to purchase and alike with the Starfire 40 is the WM Supersport 40. I had both. Darn ... I had too many planes!!!

VA... it may not be worth the shipping. the plane itself can be bought for NT$3200 or roughly $105. It's not cheap considering that a World Models SS40 and SS40S are less than $100. Personally, I like the looks of the WM T-34 Mentor which retails for $130... but my all time favorite plane for Saturday fun flying is the Rambler 30. At $130 it's not the cheapest 30-size plane... but with a 52 4-stroke engine, it's such a treat.
