Servo's!

Hey guys,
I'm looking to make the move into gasser somtime in the future... it's hard when your 15.. But Right now I'm flying an Ultra Stick Lite 1.20 with Futaba S3305's. These are great servo's with 124 oz/in. or torq. at 6.0 Volts. But like most analog servo's they don't have quite the centering qualities digi's do. I've been looking at these:

http://www.servocity.com/html/s9153_hi_torque.html ---- Futaba S9153

http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-5955tg.html --------Hitec 5955tg

http://www.servocity.com/html/hsr-59...ra_torque.html ---------Hitec 5995tg

I really like the Hitecs as they are REALLY High torq and would have some use in all my planes in the future. It will be quite some time before I make my purchase (probably only 2 servo's at first) but this is somthing I really need to research and get the best for my money. I also looked at JR 8611's and the new 8611A btu tere's alot of those for sale which makes me wander. I also Have some questions;

1.) Do I HAVE to have a programmer?

2.) What other "care and feeding" should I know about?

Thanks!

RE: Servo's!

I'm new in gasser also. I found out the hard way that Futaba recievers and Hitec digital servers are not a good combo. When you plug 2 hitec servos into a (Y) they will not function properly. Unplug one and all is well! You can also plug 2 hitec servos into a reversing (Y) and all is well. I bought 8 of Hitec 5645MG's recently and I'm having to pick and choose where I use them. The places that I was going to us 2 servos tied together with a Y I've ended up using 2 JR 4721. These work great.

Also, don't under power your model trying to save money. If it recommends 100cc go with 100cc and not 75cc, etc.

You can save some money buying off the RC Universe classifieds. You can find some good deals on RTF, just research the setups the models have and don't settle for something your not sure about. RESEARCH< RESEARCH< RESEARCH!!! Hind sight is 20/20

Hope I have helped some.

ICE MAN,

I'm getting ready to venture into the gasser realm also. I think you would get better answers to your questions about setup for gas in the giant forum. They are already using the servos you are asking about and in the way you are looking to use them.

One of the concerns I had about going gas was with the servos also; do I have to get digitals and do I need a programmer. I found out that you only need a programmer if you are using two servos on one surface, or if you put them on a Y. It seems to me that most are using the 8611 servos. Yeah there are a few for sale. Remember, all deals aren't good deals.

Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I know not to underpower models.. i fly 3D so I'm used to overpowered models.. How do I move this to the giants forum? I posted it here because this gets more traffic but I might get better results in Giants.

RE: Servo's!

If you are planning on using HiTec digitals you don't need the programmer unless you want to reverse one servo (as in the case of a two servo elevator set-up) and don't want to buy a servo reverser Y.... The programmer also helps on a two servo per surface set-up, but you can also use an MS-10 from Futaba... or JR's Matchbox to do the same thing for additional cash. If you are planning on using alot of HiTec digitals- then the programmer would be a good idea eventually.

I use alot of analog Hitec 645's. Lots of power. Reasonably priced. Metal gears. They show up in almost all of my warbirds.

Thanks P39,

Do you have a link to those programmers?

http://www.hitecrcd.com/

Keep in mind that the programmer works with the digitals only. Not the analog ones.

Gotcha,

Any other advise? Tips/Tricks?

RE: Servo's!

My 2cents, buy servos specifically for your next plane. If you just buy some you may have way to much or not enough servo. I would hate to have to choose a plane because I only had certain servos.
When I buy a servo I think of strength, speed, weight and price. In that order, also I have not had good luck with Hitec. I buy futaba. Digitals are nice but if you buy them dont get the cheap ones, the only futaba/JR digitals I like are $70+. For instance I have some S3151's and they are basically a s148 that cant handle 6 volts.

A lot of folks use Hitec with good results, if your 15 and concerned with price you might consider them. Personally I wouldn't trust them in a High dollar gas plane.

RE: Servo's!

I know what you mean.. But these appear to be good servo's... Before now I always used Futaba But it looks like I need some Higher torq servo's... These aren't cheap and these were just some of the ones I found I like... Just looking for suggestions:)
