My welcome post and question

Hi everybody,

Wanted to introduce myslelf and look forward to becoming a part of this community. I just moved to New Orleans, LA and have 3 aircraft; Aerobat 40, PAC SU-26, and a Kyosho heli. I haven't flown any of these planes in many years (since 1997) due to going to college but now that i am out I'm trying to get back into the hobby i love.

Now my question...

Like i said i hav a PAC SU-26 (I will post some pics of my planes soon). During its years in storage i mangaged to loose one of the 2 screws that attach the wing to the body. The screw is a fine thread that has an alan wrench head. Well it seems that PAC is no longer in business so getting a replacement screw seems to be out of the question. Are there any other option that i have for finding a matching screw or will i have to replace both screws and possibly rethread the mount?

Again glad to be onboard and thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome back to the hobby and to RCU.

Matching a missing screw or bolt can be tough. Since you have an identical one, bring it to to your local hardware store and see if you can find a match. Lowes especially has a pretty good variety of small rc-friendly nuts and bolts.

It would not be so bad if you had to replace the part. You could also try out one of the internet vendors. I have been very happy with www.rtlfasteners.com.

Good luck.

this is what i did when i needed to replace the wing hold down bolt
on my cap 232, i found some nylon bolts that fit just right
go to your local hardware store, they should have the bolts you are looking for
or your lhs should have them also, bring the fuse with you so you can check
the threads on the spot...

Hi and welcome back! On the PAC SU-26. Is the plane for a 40 size engine? If it is and I assume that the mounting blocks are made of hardwood, I would rethread the mounting blocks to 10-32 size and then coat the threads with CA to toughen them up. Then use nylon bolts from the hobby shop. Reason being, I found out that metel bolts can loosen themselves off from vibration during flight. Nylon bolts are vibration resistant and won't loosen on you. Wings bolts coming loose are a bad thing! [X(]

Thanks for the advice. Funny enough i thought to give e-bay a look and actually found my plane...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I emailed this guy asking for a possible replacement screw.

Man, that ebay auction linked to a clip of the Su-26 in flight. Gotta check out the near crash 2/3 into the clip..got my heart pumpin

Check it here.. http://homepage.mac.com/williamt4/iMovieTheater30.html

Nah just get the quicktime plugin here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

Here i'll spoil it :D Basically he brings it in for a landing but bounces it. He then tries to fly the bounce in but it went so high that it stalls on him. He came milimeters from cartwheeling it.

If PAC is Pacific Aeromodels, try www.pacaeromodel.com

Their old SU-26 was not the same as the AK-model Suchoi.

Well below the PAC logo on my su-26 it says "Pompano Air Conter", "Pompano Beach, FL". Its definitely the same plane as the one in the ebay auction but my bet is that this company is no longer in existence

RE: My welcome post and question

Pompano Air Center is, or was, the US distributor for the full scale Su-26. What you are looking at is a "scale" decoration, not the maker of the kit.

In any event, the various suggestions you have received are all good.

Enjoy, Jim

RE: My welcome post and question

Well no s**t, don't i feel silly . That explains why my google searches for my plane and PAC brought up articles about Pompano trying to get the SU-26 popular in the US. I'm ignorant about my plane because my dad bought it and built it for me back in 1996-97 so i didn't really have an idea about where he got it. Guess i need to check with him about where he got it. Thanks again for helping me out and clearing things up for me [8D]

Well I think you were right. After having things cleared up for me i went back to the auction and gave the pictures a good stare. I've noticed some differences between my model and the AK-model. I also gave my dad a call and his first answer was pacific air model which sounds a lot like pacific aeromodel :-). I think i will give these guys a call just to put this personal mystery a rest. Boy looks like i got some catching up to do ;)
