Micro servos for elevator
 

I am building a 60 size Kangke cap 232 and it uses a Y pushrod for the Elevator halves. I have a few hitec HS81 i was thinking of mounting back in the tail for a stiffer linkage setup. do you guys think these servo's could handle it?

How much torque do those servos put out? I am not familiar with them.

I think I would feel more comfortable with more torque than the HS-81's 38ozs. I might consider the HS-85BB, as they're only a few bucks more usually.

You should be find with a 38 oz mini servo on each half. i'm using only 42 ounces for both halfs of an elevator wiht a .42 oz standard hitec servo.

Sure. Remember that most .60 sized airplanes ever built used a single standard servo with maybe 45 ounces of torque on the elevator, with no problems. I routinely flew a fourteen pound Byron Sabre with just one standard servo on the elevator. Lately, I have been going for more smaller servos. I have two miniservos on the ailerons of an ME110.
The only downside to the miniservos is they only have two mounting screws, so you need to be careful that you do a good job installing them.
You can also use a 6v receiver pack to make them more powerful.
The thing is...if you want REALLY precision control, you need to use better quality servos, whether they are standards or minis. There IS a difference. The plane will feel sharper and nicer with better servos. But, you pays your money and you takes your chances.
But...I do not think you will have any problems with the two hitecs on the elevator, it should be better than a single standard and the long pushrod.

After re-reading this thread I may have misread it the first time,as I noticed you mentioned that you already have them, not that you would be buying them...

I also realized you may be installing two instead of just one. If you'll be installing one for each elevator have... 38ozs per half will be enough. If you're installing one servo for the whole elevator, I would feel more comfortable with more torque.

Thanks guys for all the help. It is nice to know i have some options. I'm waiting for my Engine to arrive so i check where things will balance out.

Unless you use the Metal gear version I would NOT use them, Check to see if the specs are for 4.8 volts or 6.0 volts makes a big diif. in the torq, the gears will strip with any amount of flutter they are very weak ,, Fastlash

i also have a kangke cap, would like to change the control rod setup, post a pic of your setup when you get finished , i have already gone to a pull-pull on the rudder , much nicer
