*Seagull Laser 200*
I'm looking at this plane and thinking of putting a Super Tigre G-2300 on it. Can someone who has this plane give me a measurement on how tall it stands? I have a 2003 Ford Ranger with a cover on the bed and need to know if I can haul it with the cover on.

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Zippi - Scroll down through the threads and look for one titled Seagull Laser 200 from Bob Zaar. Its fairly lenghtly but maybe you can quiry some of the guys who still have theirs. Bob Zarr does, possibly Kaz and Ron. Mine came to an unlikely demise. Forgot the canopy and turbulence messed up tail feather controls. Excellent flying plane

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Hi guys....still have mine. Flew it for the month of June them cleaned it and put it away. I'm now flying my Yak 54 for this month.
Ok...from the ground to top of cowl (which is the highest part)...it's 16 inches. So the bed of your truck must have at least 18 inches clearance. Hope this helps. Kaz. |

Thanks Harc.

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Thanks J-To-Low, I'm not sure if I can fit this master piece in my truck or not. All I have is about 17 1/2" clearance in the bed of my truck. Have you flown the plane? whats your opinon of the Laser as far as quality and looks?

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Im sorry i forgot to check the height But......
from one of those pictures it shows the cowl at a very close height to the wingtip of my dads 33% H9 Cap232 i just went down to check and from the floor to the wingtip is 10" so i figure it is around 10" to 12" from the top of the cowl to the ground I WILL get you an true measurment later on J |
RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
as for looks it looks great on the ground and in the air
Quality is good but you should strengthen the fire wall/motor box flying quality...... if you are a 3D flyer this plane is NOT for you if you are looking for a nice sport flier this IS for you if you like to fly IMAC you could probably get it through the intermediate sequence easily J |
RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Thanks J-To-Low. from the dimensions you gave it looks like I may not be able to fit the plane in my truck. I know the wife won't go for a new truck or trailer ;) What power plant is on the business end of your Lazer?

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
I AM USING AN OS 120 FOURSTROKE AND THAT SEEMS ADEQUATE..THE AIRFRAME IS NOT THAT HEAVY AND THE FRONT CONSTRUCT IS NOT TOO BEEFY...YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO A LOT OF STRENGTHENING FOR TH SUPER T.

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Zippi - I'm about 2 months late in answering you. Old computer met the same fate as some of my planes. CRASH Just finished up my 2d Laser 200 today. Hasn't flown but hopefully this coming Friday. I have a ST G2300 in it with an APC 17x8 prop. Engine is as far forward as can go with the supplied mount AND height to top of the cowl is 16 1/4 plus or minus 1/16 inches. It will fitted in your weehicle.
Couple of things if you get one. As Bob Zaar said, reinforce the firewall. I epoxied triangle stock in every corner where I could get my fingers to fit. Hope that is sufficient. Secondly, if you forget the canopy - DON'T fly it. I did and 98% sure the turbulence from the cavity created a loss of tailfin control. Obviously, it crashed. With engine as situated, using a Harry Higley brass hub (2 oz) and 4 cell rcvr battery partially wedged under the fuel tank and held in place. All servos placed as shown in the plans. I'm using Hitec 635 for all surfaces and a std servo for the throttle. Rcvr is mounted adjacent to the throttle servo. With all this, balance (CG) is 1 1/2 plus or minus 1/4 inches from the wing tip measured at the tips. If anything else I can answer or help, don't hesitate to contact me. Harc |
RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
I have one of these that's still in the box I was gonna put a G2300 on, but now I am thinking about trying to sell it to buy a Fliton extra 330, or trade it for one.
|
RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Thundervee - Didn't intend to scare you off with my commentary. Its not that difficult to epoxie in the triangular stock. The Laser 200 is a good plane. Reason I bought a 2300 was that I have 2ea 120s on hand and mounted in planes. Didn't want another and, if I live long enough, will find something bigger for the 2300 once I wear out the Laser.

RE: *Seagull Laser 200*
Harc, no harm done I was already thinking about getting the Fliton before I read this post, If I keep the laser I am gonna go with the 2300, but I really want one of those fliton's, maybe I will keep the laser and buy the other one too, can never have enough planes I recon:D
