Hinge HELP!
Hey guys,
I recently had the rudder hinges pull out of my Ultra Stick Lite.so I cut new slots and put in 2 new hinges... The pinned them with tooth picks... Now I'm going to seal the gaps with packing tape.. I havent flown it since the repair but for some reason I'm really nervous about these hinges pulling out again! Or Breaking!.... I fly this plane pretty hard but should I leave the 2 hinges in the rudder... Or hould I pull it back off and put in those robart hingepoint deals? |
RE: Hinge HELP!
I hate answering your post because your avatar scares me LOL, but I will anyhow. I use the pinned hinges in my GP Super Sportser 120 (Old Great Planes Discontinued Kit) which was notorious for flutter. I added a counter weight to the ailerons after a good fluttering on the first few flights with it which solved the problem. During the 2 flutter episodes the pinned hinges held up well, and never gave way. So I tend to believe they are fairly strong even under some tough stresses. I run small screws through mine, but the toothpicks would be just as good I would think, as I see alot of people who use the toothpick method.
