Ray, there is another thread on this Harmon Rocket in here somewheres, look around for it, I've had mine for about six or seven months now. It's not a spectacular performer and the cowl shape will seriously limit the type of engine you may want to use. But all in all, with a little bit of work, a nice little ARF. What engine did you use Mike? I would like to try my 72 Saito in one of these.

Ray, I would not advise it. #1, It's way too big in physical size. #2, This type of aircraft needs a two-stroke for speed [ but thats up to the individual to decide ]. I found after a number of researches, The Enya .50 is about the only engine that will fit WITHIN the cowl parameters. You will need a pitts type muffler and mount the engine at a ninety degree. Try to look close at the photos of it in the other thread. You will also need to sand-down the four ends of the wood engine mount just a little bit because the ends will wear into the cowl at final fit. Three servos in the tail make it way too heavy. Move the rudder servo into the wing saddle area and install a 2-56 pull-pull. You will also need a servo reverser for elevators. I smoked the canopy black, a 2-3/4 Dave Brown Ultimate spinner with an 11-7 prop for what appears to be the best performance range at 4500 feet altitude. One more thing, use the landing gear as a template pattern and make a more scale loolking gear out of thicker and a little bit longer aluminum. MM

I actually purchased this plane today. After looking at how a Saito 72 will mate up in the front, I would say it is a perfect match. I am not out for speed on this plane but rather scale performance. The 72 with a lower diameter prop and a higher pitch should work well if you want speed. The airframe will only fly so fast regardless of what engine you mount on the nose per say.

Sawacs, I would be very interested to see a Saito .72 inside that cowl. Please provide photos when completed. Try a bigger fuel tank too. Are you going to modify the landing gear? Regards, MM

Ray, sure it will, If you dont mind seeing half of it exposed below the cowl. There is a clear photo of the Rocket on another post here somewhere. I'm very curious to see the results. Post a photo when done please. MM

Mike, I will post up some pics when I get the engine mounted.. I have just began installing the aileron servos this evening. Btw, this is a very well costructed ARF when compared to some others out there..

Regarding the landing gear, I am not a big fan of a two part aluminum landing gear. I will probally mount a ply or aluminum beam connecting the two pieces then covering the holes on the bottom after the gear is in plane. Also, I plan on doing a little sanding on the firewall area to take the paint off, glassing the joints, and sealing up the firewall box from the outside air/fuel etc.

Ckangaroo70, the 72 would mount inverted easily. However, the only drawback I can think of would be a large portion of the engine sticking out from the bottom.

Sawacs, Curious, Whats your rank and AFSC ? I notice your rudder servo is in place at the tail, If your going with that Saito .72, I wonder if your going to still need a little more weight back there. Those sharp corner edges at the front of the engine mount frame may have to be "rounded off '' just a little bit, I'm sure they are going to press into the cowl when it's fitted, so double check it. I also made my own properly scaled landing gear. The blue ones seem to put the plane just a little too close to the ground. They were'nt difficult to make. In time I'll probably buy another, stripp off the factory cover and apply a more personal scheme. [and maybe make a longer canopy for a two-seat version] You going to go with an "Ultimate" style spinner?, Gotta go, MM

Read your previous posts. I could be mistaken but does Dubro make 2 3/4" ultimate style spinners. I have checked. Where did you get yours?? Looks pretty cool with the HR.

Sharmanc, "oops" ! I meant to say Dave Brown Products makes the 2- 3/4 Ultimate spinner. They made one just for my special request then decided to make a production run of that item. :D You done with yours? How about a photo of it. MM

That does look pretty nice. Amazing how Horz was reluctant to bring over something like this. Not everyone wants to fly 3D birds all the time. Its nice to see some variety.

I think I can get the turbo-jet muffler installation to look good in this without destroying the cowl. Although it has more of a "ultimate" type of lower cowl sweep.

Will get the pics up as soon as I've finished with the engine. I'm going for the saito 72 although it does require the cowl to be cut up a bit- too late already have. Was just wondering if anyone here substituted the supplied 1 piece mount with after market varieties. Do you think the supplied mount will be strong enough for a 72?? It looks pretty flexible. Any thoughts??? Was also thinking of fitting a stub type muffler instead of the cast alum which come with the engine- save weight and large excess holes in the cowl..

Not sure if the supplied mount will be strong enough for Saito .72. Maybe you'll want to try something else just to be safe. Either muffler will probably work OK. Seeya later, MM
