VQ Single Engine ARF's

Has anyone tried any of these planes out? I like the look of the Mig and the Micachi (sp?). I did a search on the forums and the only thing I see is the VQ P61, which I am not ready to try yet.
The planes are priced right, but I'd like to get some feedback on them.
thanks!
Pete

RE: VQ Single Engine ARF's

I owned their P51 and their macchi. The P51 was a newer one and it was a great little plane. I ended up selling it, but it flew great. I had an OS 70 four stroke in it. It was very scale in appearance and was durable.
As mentioned, I also owned the macchi. This was a very old version of the VQ macchi, which I understand has now been re-worked several times. This plane had an OS61 2 stroke in it. I flew the plane once and got rid of it. It was terrible. It was squirlly and barely controllable. I landed it very softly and both fixed gear punched through the top of the wings. I patched it up and sold immediately. Again, this was a very old version of the macchi, so I would not go by this. I understand they are substantially improved now.
Overall, though, based on my mustang I would say they are decent planes.
The only other negative is that they are overpriced. For the same price, you can pick up a world models plane, which is probably going to be better built.

By the way, where did you see them? You mention that they are priced right, but the only place I can find that sells them anymore are directly from VQ and those planes you mention are $200.

I have the VQ Macchi. The plane was a real *****cat of a warbird. Almost too docile. I would say that the landing gear rails are a little on the weak side, if you can greas it on great but I was trying to do 3d harrier landings and after about 30 or so flights finally wound up punching thru the top of the wing. Other than that it's a nice plane, would be a very good first warbird. Mine flew ith an OS .46AX, plenty of power (can you say unlimited vertical) not very scale but a great flyer none the less.

I have the P40 and there are a ton of post on the P40 in the warbird section .Its a great plane , excellant quality and value .The plane is rock solid but not a sport plane , its 100% a warbird , simply put its somewhat heavier so landings require flaps and the plane is equiped with flaps .
I have posted pics on this plane and there is an entire online build from Richard L

Thanks for the replies!
sbaugz: I only saw them on the website, based on the prices of other ARF warbirds I thought they were pretty reasonable. I'm no expert though and I'm looking for my first warbird. I liked these because they are different.
a65l & sbaugz: I was considering the Macchi, but now I'm thinking that maybe that P-40 or the Mig3 is the way to go here. I have been considering the GP Stuka, but it looks like it's being discontinued and it isn't cheap at $325.00.
LDM: I'll do a search under P40 this time, a search under VQ did not bring this thread up.
My other thoughts on a plane have been the GP Minnow, MormanMike just wrote how the plane flies and I have been seriously considering getting this as well. But just trying to cover my bases.
Any other thoughts are definately welcome as it takes me a while to save up for a plane, engine etc. ;)

Ok hit in VQ P40 , go to the second page and you will see VQ P40 by LDM , it will show my plane with pics .

The online build by Ricahard l is about a year old so you will have to go back further .
The VQ P40 is one of the best ARfs on the market , I could not build a p40 with flaps , retracts bays , and detail for the $259 that I paid for this plane .Its totally sheeted and all airfoils are correct in shape .
The only minor set back is the shark mouth decals , but I made my own and so did everyone else who bought this plane

I put a topic in the Warbird forum about the Mig-3. It is a real bargain. Flys like an UltraSport. I will be racing it next month.

LDM: Found it! Very nice plane. Are you still flying it? I also found Richards build...lots of nice tips in there.
PJ: Cool, did the mig 3 come with flaps? Is it an option?

RE: VQ Single Engine ARF's

YES , I love this plane !!!! I have the CJ retracts in it , flys very nice and scale . Like I said its not a H9 , it will drop it you let it get to slow , but with flaps it lands like a sport plane , keep the speed up and its a pleasure to fly .
I am not a warbird expert so that being said I think anyone with good tail dragger experience , and few good low wingers with heavier wing loading can easily fly this plane .
