Anybody heard of SeaGull ARFs, are they still in business? They had a very nice Super Stearman 40 for $265 canadian. The local hobby store has never been able to get one for me.

I have a Seagull ARF Pilatus PC-9 and recently got their ARF Corsair.

The PC-9 flies great, and assembles easily. Havn`t flown the corsair yet.

My LHS in Denmark orders alot of them, so i guess they stil are in business

I just finished my PC-9 and waitinf for a spare time to do the test flying. But while assembling the plane, I found the cowl was to short for the .46 engine, so so the whole backplate is out of the cowl. Have you got the same problem ?

Hey Edd

Mine only "just" fit .

The engine was all the way back with the included mount.
and the cowl was about 4mm sliped back over the fuselage.

But still.....there was 5-6mm between the spinner and front of the cowl...

I have seen others glue some blocks on the firewall and then put the cowl on flush with the fuse..


Ive lost my PC-9 :eek:

I took down a glider at high speed........ and broke up in mid air.
looked cool, but what a mess....man...it flew well

Hi SJN,

Just came back from the field, my pc-9 would not fly because of the fuel keeping flood the cab. I can start the engine and began taxi then about 10 seconds the engine quit, and it just kept quit like that. I am using OS FX46 with OS #8 plug. Do you have any ideal ? I am thinking to put the engine up right and forget about the cowl, it was very frustrated.

You are right....

It is a beast to get started when the engine is inverted.
But with mine, once I got it running, and the engine warmed up, then it would run fine.


My flying buddy just crashed his PC-9 yesterday. He had installed a webra 60 in his. He went into a steep dive, then the tail began to flutter. No control on the elevator during flutter, and the plane went in at full speed. He even cut the throttle, but it didn`t slow it down at all.......Total loss

My field has eaten up 3 PC-9`s now :cool:

Lost mine flying into a sail plane...
Anothe guy lost his due to radio error
And my buddy`s....I think he overpowered it. He even had installed sulivan cables in it instead of the normal wood/wire pushrods that were included.

You can see the cowl on my buddy`s PC-9 with a 60 engine realy doesn`t fit :D

Just Got a PC-9 and FX 46
 

Hey Guys,

I just got my ARF at a local hobby shop and can't wait to get started. Based on your comments, it appears that maybe a different motor-mount would solve the cowl/space problem. What do you think?

Hiya Guys.
We've been flying Seagull PC9's over here for a while now. Here are a couple of observations.
1) They fly really well.
2) Ideal engine is a 46. I know of one powered with an OS 46La that really hoots along. 46Fx with an 11 x 7 APC = unlimited...
3) It builds fairly light.
4) Have fun... Hundreds of Aussies have!!!

Just make sure clevis for aileron,ruder and elevator to be secured or get a better quality clevis. Also you may need to adjust the idle mixture to keep the engine running smoothly, because the inverted mount and the fuel tank position very high caused the engine flood. Double check the bolts for the engine mount are tighten enough. I found after 4 or 5 flights the engine mount get loosed. It is light and fast airplane but have those things checked. :)

Hi guys I fly the seagull spacewalker. And I know they are still in buisiness as the have just released a couple of new kits. Or at least new to me.

The only problems with the spacewalker was the badly designed undercarriage and the wood/metal push rod.

The push rod had a big ugly plastic cover over the wood/metal join. This was fouling the inside causing the elevator to stick in the down position. Not very good when you dont want to go in that direction. So I gut the plastic off and bound it with thread and the some superglue to hold it. Works a treat.

The undercarriage bent on the first landing and were madfe up of wire and big ugly buckles over the join with solder through it.

I bent them back into position and on the second landing the legs broke and the spats went through the wing sheet. So I had a nice repair to do. This didnt take long I finished the sheet in 30 minutes and covered it next day. I looked at replacing the legs but decided to solder them but make them so strong they wouldnt fail again.

How wrong was I !!

They broke again so I went and bought Ripmax wire legs these have been on it ever since and i have flown it for the last year and a bit.

we fly several seagull planes PC9, 2x super stearman's, pt19, p51 mustang and a new edge540, we have had excellent service from our seagull importer and we have seen the planes improve a plenty, but we still modify, strengthen and replace goodies on all our arf's not just seagull.

thanks ned,they only carry 4 of their planes. i was looking for a site to see them all. im going to email them and see if they can supply me with list and prices and availibility if they can get them. thanks again. might just get the pc-9 to start with.

Hay!! Yall check this out.....

Not a scratch on the wing, Elev flutter pulled the screws right out of the clevises and without elevators well all know what happens.

HAD A PC-9 THAT FLEW GREAT, UNTILL THE ELV CLEVIES LET LOOSE,AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPEN NEXT. FROM NOW WILL USE METAL CLEVIS ONLY.AND I WILL BRACE THE RUDDER AND ELV. ALSO I LOWERED THE FUEL TANK TO STOP THE ENGINE FROM FLOODING. HOPE THIS HELPS

I have been flying the Seagull Texan all season and apart from having to land it with a bit of speed on (tricky at the site I fly at due to short runway with long grass at either end) its been really excellent. The builing was simple and although I replaced the clevices everything else was of a really nice standard.

Other seagull models at my club include the PC-9 and Mustang and they all seem to go well although there seems to be an isssue with the steerable nosewheel on the PC-9

My T16 included not one, but two fully painted pilots and control panel not at all bad.

Adrian I have a build question regarding the PC-9. Where are the exit holes for the rods for the elevator and rudder? I cant seem to feel them behind the covering? Do you have to cut them your self?

We must get the seagull planes first here in oz and its the only thing we get first I think :) I have the sea gull 40 texan (( CRAP )) also have the PC-9 < spacewalker both of them are nice planes and good fun BUT WAIT I have the new 60 size SEA GULL texan anyone want to see pics ??? :eek: here it is wingspan is 74 inches putting 91 supertiger in her this is the best ARF I have ever seen and I have alote of them just ask my wife hehhe hope you all enjoy the pics

I had a 40 size Texan, also, and I agree, it was junk. I stripped all of the third rate Christmas wrapping? paper off it and was going to recover it, but even the wood quality seemed cheap, so it went in the trash can. I only hope that the bigger & newer Texan is much better. What was the price on it, and what's it covered with?

They are there on the right hand side rear of the plane you can feel them under the horz stabiliser...just gotta cut the covering.


I've just finished building mine except that i still have to get the throw of the surfaces as per the manual.I've got a 46FX up front and i think it'll be a good flyer :D I have to say that they are a very well made ARF.
