H9 Aresti 40

Have an Aresti 40 with a Saito 72 up front.
15% S&W Fuel.

The plane is stock except for the lighter Dave Brown engine mount. Have a couple of questions:

Plane is balanced at 3-3/4" and does fly a bit nose heavy. When inverted I need about 1/2 stick down pressure on elevator low rates to keep the nose up. It really wants to come down in a hurry inverted. Plane has recommended throws all around.

Also, the plane seems to land very hot and takes awhile to bleed off it's speed.

Was thinking about adding tail weight or Downthrust in the engine mount???

Also, I don't have the cowl installed, will this help knife edge flight?

Thanks.

RE: H9 Aresti 40

The plane is a simple low wing sport pattern plane. Its not really a pattern plane in that sense as it flies more like a sport plane than pattern but nevertheless its a very nice plane. The hot landing is most probably due to the plane being too nose heavy, take the CG back a bit more, even with the SA72 you will need almost 2oz on the tail, mine was like that. What I will say is add 1 oz to the tail and then see how she handles, then slow take the CG back to whatever point you like.

Hey Glowfuel

Whats your AUW of your plane?
I set one up this past spring with a YS 63 and it came out on the low end of H9 spec. weight for this plane.
Very easy plane to fly, but it leans more to a pattern plane then a 3D so I don't try and 3D with this plane. It does not have any problem with slow four point rolls which does hold it in knife edge momentarily.
Mine lands very easy as well.
Ninty percent of my planes are 3D planes, but I do enjoy flying this plane.
I see you the same glow fuel as I do. Stans fuel is the best I have found so far!!

Hi Stomper:

Thanks for the information. Yep, Stan's fuel seems to work well for sure. My aresti weighs about 5 3/4 lbs.

The CG is at 3 3/4" and is seems ok. The snap rolls are very snappy and seems to be on the verge of a tail heavy condition.

That's why I am sort of leary on adding or moving weight to the tail.

Perhaps it's just the way the plane flys.

Might add a deg or two of downtrust and retry inverted flight.

Again, while inverted I need a bunch of down elevator to keep level.

Where is your CG set at on your aresti? Also, do you think I can really get this CG back to 4"??

The Aresti is in my trailer, I'll get it out and check that for you. It's been raining alot the past few days so give me a day or two. I know when my plane is inverted it does not need much elevator input but I'll check the CG.

Hey Glowfuel

My apology to you for taking this long to get back to you on this!!

I have my CG set at 3 1/2" back from the LE at the fuselage and checked with plane inverted.

The AUW is 5 LB 7 OZ.
