Lanier Stinger 120
 

I'm buying a used Stinger 120 from my LHS with no engine. It's setup for a OS 160 but after looking at prices the OS is a little out of my budget. I did look at the Super Tigre 2300 and was wondering if this enough engine for general sport flying and mild areobatics(loops,rolls). This will be ny first giant scale plane.

You'll never regrett saving up a bit and buying an OS 160,this engine will fly many larger planes for many years.It is also best on fuel consumption in it's size .I am assuming that previous 160 was a 2 stroke.

I had one for a few years. I used a Saito 150, OS 108 and Webra 120. It flew well with all engines. You will have lots more power than needed for light aerobatics. Nice plane but I hated the ABS plastic, it cracked alot.

If this is your first giant scale plane and you want to power it with the most cost effective engine try a Ryobi 31cc gas conversion or maybe a homelite 25cc. Take a look at this home page and see what I mean http://www.macs-rc.com/. This is a Giant Scale Lanier 120 being flown by a 31cc ryobi gas conversion engine. You can buy these engines real cheap already converted and the fuel only cost you $2.80 a gallon plus $.99 for the 2 stroke oil. That is only $3.79 a gallon and these engine will fly twice as long on half the fuel.:D

I built one and had a US41 gas motor. It was a great, fun, stable flyer. Flew it for a couple summers and then regretted selling it. My 2 cents. Brian

I have a couple of the 120 size stingers, tried the ryobi 31cc conversion-okay but wanted more power, tried US 41 ,adequate stronger than the ryobi I think, currently in the process of installing the super tiger 2300. the abs plastic is crummy. I suggest buy the ARF. it is all wood construction. A fellow club member had a Fuji 50 installed on his, It seemed like the best setup I have seen for this airplane.

I've got a converted homelite 25cc in mine, flys great but isn't enough for 3d. probably around a .9:1 thrust ratio, it will hover for a couple seconds before losing it and falling back.

That plane can handle a BIG engine, with my little 25cc I moved the firewall back about 2 inches or so and it balances perfect.
