Which one to assemble next?
I need help deciding. I've been doing more collecting than building. It's time to get off my posterior and put a new plane in service. So, to help in my quest, I decided it might be interesting to start a poll to get other people's input. One note, please don't suggest planes that are not on the list, I'm looking to reduce the inventory of unbuilt planes, not expand it. :D So, which one should I assemble?

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Hmmm, that's food for thought. I was going to use an OS FS-70 on the Decathlon, hadn't even thought of sticking a Tower .75 in it. Did you use the standard muffler, or a pitts? Engine sideways, or inverted?

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Piper, I voted for the Cap simply becauce I have one under the bench and it will be my next plane. I have dry fit it together to see what it is going to look like and I liked what I saw. I will probally put an Enya 45 CX or 50 CX on it for power. My 2 cents.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Thanks for the Decathlon pics. Please don't remove the cowl, I know how much of a pain that is. The front and bottom views told me what I needed to know. Most of my planes are .25 size. I'm always amazed to see how much space is available for the radio components in bigger planes.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Thanks for the vote Bill. When I build my MC Cap I'll probably put a 4 stroke in it. Right now all my planes are 2 stroke and I kind of miss the 4 stroke sound. Of course the TH .75 that Rcpilet has on his Decathlon could be interesting on the Cap. :D Wonder if it's got enough groud clearance for that size prop.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
i voted for the Cap, cuz i just love Caps!!! :D

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Keep casting those votes. It's interesting, this morning it looked like the Decathlon would be the clear winner, but now the Kyoshso TM is out in front. One of the guys was flying one of his cubs at the field late Saturday afternoon and I was thinking about how cool it would be to have the Cub or TM finished so we could do some slow formation flying together. Nothing like a classic plane with the putt putt putt sound of a 4 stroke as the sun is setting.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
I have been flying the Tigermoth for about four years or so, I bought it the week after it came available and I have flown it more than any other plane I have owned. It is a brilliant flyer and flies nice and scale with a saito 56. It has been my go to plane for years and I have flown it so much that the last time I flew it the engine was down on power and I have too many projects going to strip the motor and check it out. I will do soon though as it is really a keeper.
Good Luck Paul |

RE: Which one to assemble next?
ORIGINAL: Rcpilet When you decide to put that WM Zen 30 together--please start a thread or post some pics. I'm thinking about getting it. Have you cracked the seal on the box yet? Any opinion on the design and quality? I find WM to be pretty good quality--but everyone puts out a lemon eventually. I want the Zen 30--but only if it's up to the usuall WM quality. Their lemons (not really a fair designation) would have to be their Aircombat series. The only reason I say lemons for them is they are not at all scale or particularly attractive. They also won't work as a combat plane. However, in fairness, I will say that I fly my WM Aircombat Zero more than any other plane. It's ugly, but it flies really well, and the low cost means I can have more fun with it than anything else. If I ever break it, I got a good deal on one in the Yak colors so I won't have to go long without. Maybe I should just build all of them. :D |
RE: Which one to assemble next?
I wanted to vote for two of your choices but I am flying a Seagull Decath so naturally I picked that one, I wouldn't mind a Tigermoth very nice lookin plane. The decathlon is a nice flyer I started flying mine maybe a month ago and flown it alot even flew it tonight. I started with a Supertiger 45 with a pitts style muffler and then just a couple weeks ago I baught a used OS 70 FS and tonight was the first flight with the new engine. The ST45 was pretty decent for pulling it around I don't do extreme arobatics I just do the normal stuff I wont change my style since I put a four stroke but the extra power is very nice. I also don't use a Gyro for anything if you read the thread about the Seagull Decathlon there are a bunch of people who are relying on the gyro to get them straight down the runway but I personally don't need it. Anyways I am sure there all very nice planes but there is something about a highwing plane like the decathlon. |
RE: Which one to assemble next?
Voted for the Seagull Decathlon, Never flown a SG Model before, But I like the looks of it!

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Yup, it's tough to choose. I want to build them all, but I've got a limited supply of receivers and servos and all the memory slots on the Tx are full. I've vowed to myself that enough is enough and I won't buy more receivers or another Tx. Something will have to come out of service to put a new one in, but that's ok. I've discovered that of the planes I've got flying, only a couple make it to the field regularly. I plan leave the servos and engine in whatever gets sidelined, but I'll pull the Rx and battery out. Shouldn't be too hard to put it in service later. Maybe I'll even hang a couple from the ceiling in my office to irritate the wife. :)

RE: Which one to assemble next?
I decided this should not drag on forever. I set the poll to close at 23:59 on Sunday. Keep those votes coming.
The Decathlon is out in front right now. It's obviously a popular plane. I was actually hoping that the WM Cub or Zen would be on top, wanted to try one that less people have... |
RE: Which one to assemble next?
Piper - just build them all ... I mean you bought them all to fly! It will keep you busy. Hehehe ... I got quite a few planes too in the hobby room, all NIB but I am waaaaaay to lazy to wanna build and fly them, only flying my EP planes. When are you coming to Malaysia? Its great fun here ... wanna see where my flying field is? You got Google Earth?
|
RE: Which one to assemble next?
Eventually I'll build them all, but I've got a limited number of receivers. When am I coming to Malaysia? Maybe sooner than expected. My manager sent a note earlier this week about that very subject. Most likely nothing will come of it, but who knows. Yes, I've got google earth. Here's where I fly: "NCFT Field" lat=35.7830354545, lon=-79.0328308682 . I'll PM you the coordinates to my house. It's quite cool, you can see the cars in the driveway.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Just one more day of voting. The Decathlon is still out in front, but the WM planes are starting to takeoff (sorry for the pun, couldn't resist). Don't forget to vote, and stay tuned for a Survivor-like twist when the winner is revealed! ;)

RE: Which one to assemble next?
:)Man piper...You're gonna have to build these planes and let us know how you did them. And...how they fly and how they went together.
Thanks Barry |
RE: Which one to assemble next?
Working on it. Have to let the voting finish first.

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Piper,a little sooner than I had planed, I have started the build of my "generic" cap build. The one I am building is one I got from an Ebay seller that is apparently associated with Raidon Tec. The only reason for starting this build is that I put my 60 size stick in the top of a pine tree turning final yesterday and that was my only plane to fly except for a trainer I keep charged to help a couple of local kids on a buddy box. As far as I have gone this plane is coming along just fine. I will be using a Saito 56 as the 2 strokes I have would involve hacking for the exaust. Anyway I hope that whatever you decide on will be be your best ride ever;)

RE: Which one to assemble next?
Well Chuck I brought the Cap 1 vote closer to home, but the Seagul is still ahead, just buy the spinner though. 1 more for the Cap & she's all tied up.:)
