How do you top this??
 

I guess this is the place for this since we were flying an ARF at the time. I was teaching my nephew to fly this afternoon using a buddy box and a Kadet Sr. ARF version. Everything was going just fine and Blake was questioning me on my role in this flight. I told him I was there to teach him to fly and to get him out of trouble if he pushed the wrong stick and that the bigger job was helping him out of trouble. His reply was "Oh, you mean like God."

I may as well quit now, it's all down hill from here.

As you said, you are there to Teach. So it should be assumed from the start that not only will he need help in learning how to fly, but also help in understanding why he needs your help. Build his confidence up by letting him know what a great job he is doing, but let him know that you are there just as a safety net or a little insurance in case something don't go quite right. If you make him feel like you are hovering over his every move then he may feel like you lack alot of confidence in him. So give him a little space to breath, and maybe try standing behind him on the Master Box instead of beside him. This way he feels like he is in control. Some people just require different types of teaching methods then others. You just need to find what works best for you and him. The main thing is not to give up, because one day he will appreciate what you did for him I hope.

That is pretty funny what he said. How old is he? When my neice grows up a little more, im going to try and teach her to fly to see if she likes it.

Jockey: great food for thought. How many times have you seen newbies (even full-scale pilots) attempt to go it alone. When you get right down to it, there is no such thing as a self-made man. At 50 years of age I like to think that I have gained enought wisdom to take help wherever I can get it, and the wisdom to discern the help given.

Good RC pilot who understands basic aerodynamics would have easier time with a full size airplane cold turkey than the other way around. I'm a fully size (airplane) flight instructor who loves flying RC.
