H9 Aresti 40 Flaperons
 

Want to put flaperons on my Aresti 40. The plane lands fairly hot and the take off roll is a bit long.


What amount of throw would be good to start with for flaperons?

You do not need flapperons for the Aresti, not at all. Firstly, what engine are you using and is your CG correct? With a SA72 or something like a 50 sized 2C it will definately be nose heavy. I had a SA72 and needed about 2 oz in the tail. Nose heavy will cause the plane to come in hot. Done the inverted flight test for CG? Secondly, maybe you need to flare the plane more for landings, mine did not come in that hot at all. Was at a reasonable pace.

I set flaperons up in most of my planes. I dont always use them, but they are usually set up. Even in my trainer. I generally start with about 15 to 20% and then couple about 5 to 7% up elevator in conjunction. Its a good place to start

Move the CG back a bit. Mine flies great at the recommended CG. Careful, though, move it back too far and it will drop a wing. I installed the battery under the turtledeck to fix the CG with a OS 46.

It also depends on the prop. I ran an 11X7 and it wanted to run away from me on taxi and it did come in a little fast. I tried flaperons but it just caused it to stall a bit. Just give yourself a little extra landing space and it will be fine. Take off was a little long but as soon as it got speed she would get up in a hurry.

I put flaperons on mine. The only time I use them is when i"m floating against the wind.

Make your bird a little tail heavy, you"ll love it.

Yeah ... check the CG and FLARE FLARE FLARE ... :)
