funtana 40 engine install help!!!!!
 

hey guys I just picked up a Funatana 40 today. I have OS 91 Surpass2 4c for it and I cant figure out how to mount this engine on a funtana. what do I have to do? yes it might be a stupid question :) Im fairly new to the airplanes world...
can you guy post some pictures? I really need help with this

Sorry to say this if you do not have the knowledge on how to install the engine in a Funtana 40 you have a bigger problem than simple instalation, this is NOT a beginers aircraft, the front of the Funtana is flat and has the side thrust built in, if you must do it get some help from an experienced airo muddler.

Andy ... its not a stupid question, you are just new. What do you mean that you have no idea how to mount it? What is the problem? Is it that the engine mount will not fit? The F40 was made for 40 sized engines, which include 70 sized 4C engines too ... the 91FS is larger and I believe the holes on the firewall will not be wide enough, you may need to remove the blind nuts behing the holes, plug up the holes and re install the blind nuts to fit the mount. Perhaps you need an experienced modeller to assist?

yes the engine mount are too small for the motor I have well not the mount it self but the
holes on the firewall...

yes maybe I need to take it to my field and let experts take a look at it..( but Ill try it my self first) Any pictures?

And Im not totally new to the hobby I flew heli for a long time...about 4 years

The Funtana 40 needs a bigger engine than the 40 2s or 70 4s suggested to get the best performance the 90 you propose is probably over kill but you would have plenty of power in reserve, I suggest you mount your engine to some suitable bearers preferable T shaped so that you can get the engine as far back as possible turn the airframe vertical place the engine and bearers on the bulkhead, put the cowl on in its final position, centralise the engine with the front opening i.e. spinner back plate, take off the cowl and mark where the bearer mounting holes are on the bulkhead, I'm sure you can do the rest, I had to attach spruce cheacks to the bulkhead to move the cowl forward so that I did not have a big gap between the cowl and the spinner.
Incidently with a 70 in mine I had to mount the servos under the cockpit to balance without additonal weight, you may not have this problem with a 90 however, weight is to be avoided at all costs on a 3D maching, if you do have a c of g problem move the servos and close loop the linkages for positive input.

I had a F40 once with that same combo. Yes, you need to relocate the blind nuts in order to make it fit. In fact, you should really use a different mount all together. The one that comes with the plane is not quite enough for that engine. The sad thing is, you will need to put the batteries behind the canopy to balance with your engine choice & the fuse is weak back there. I did a "wall" & snapped mine in half. Good luck.
